Summer transfer window 2023

…..you all know my benchmark by now; 20 points at Christmas.

If we have that, I’d be happy we’re on course to be ok. Anything below and it’s a struggle, 5 or 6 points above is Europa League thoughts.
Even with a couple of decent additions to the squad, an optimistic reading of that fixture list gives us 15 or 16 points by Christmas. It's going to be very difficult to hit the 40 mark next season. Feel we will be relying on the tried and trusted Three Worse Teams strategy.

Che Adams is Bad Pants.

I'll explain my rationale - I don't think we're going to see early movement/everything in place by the time Fulham come to Goodison for the opening day of the season outside of players like Che Adams, but I still think we need those additions to the squad

Other football clubs are aware of our dire financial situation, and know that (1) We need to improve the squad; (2) We are currently sell to buy/very low opening instalments like Onana. As a result, other clubs for the most part know they can wait for Everton to lower their prices as we get further into the window and need to start moving on players at lower cost (although Thelwell and co have actually done relatively well thus far with ISS and Simms sales).

Moreover, other transfers have a domino effect - see for example West Ham moving on Rice, possibly then going in for Onana (guess work but the big transfers have big knock on effects in the chain). Even loans typically happen towards the end of the window as it becomes clear that there isn't a space for a player on the periphery of the squad or they haven't impressed a new manager in preseason.

What this all means for Everton is that if we want to bolster the squad (which we especially need to do at the top end, given DCL won't be fit for the first few games judging from club media), we are limited to targeting players at clubs who have worse leverage than ourselves until we can make a big sale (Pickford, Onana, Branthwaite, Iwobi, Gray to Saudi?), and then you can invest in your quality young players with room to grow (Bilal Toure, Elanga, Boniface?).

Adams is the best of a bad bunch in that regard imo - players that the selling club will want to get rid of quickly, that fit the style of play (unlike say Maupay), that won't be wildly in demand from elsewhere, and have proven themselves to be at least lower end Premier League forwards.

I agree that we can't waste that early run of fixtures like we've done in the past; this requires getting a forward in early doors, and Adams ticks a lot of boxes in that respect. Should also be said I do actually think he's better than the goals to games actually suggests and would improve the squad long term, but that's not really the broader point I'm trying to make

Dyche had the existing squad (plus Mina for a few games) on 41 point pace when he came in. Adding two or three decent attacking players would significantly improve the obvious problem area in the squad and so really there’s no reason to think Dyche couldn’t, with those signings, at the very least maintain if not improve on the 1.1 ppg he set last season, and that’s easily enough to survive.

Still plenty of talk of gnonto still doesn’t look close to being done would be a good signing at that price, I’m surprised no one else has took a chance on him for the rumoured fee don’t believe we will sign him either doesn’t look like a number 9 is the priority either should probably already have one in by now should of been our first signing and lined up ready to sign early June ready for the signing to be announced first couple of days in July.

Adams not good enough had plenty of chances and cant make it in PM
Would rather go for the Swansea guy Piroe looks good
young and hungry with possible sell on profit in 3 years if required

I respect your opinion but this is complete and utter codswallop.

Deep down I dont believe you believe this the case either.

Impossible

Adams is average but better than Maupay.

Incorrect and a bonus point that he actually fits our style, unlike the French flop.

Maupay better record in the championship and has ourscored Adams in every single PL season except last year.

Gone full Zat here.

You don't need to explain the your rationale, Che Adams in whatever role has never been good enough.

And definitely not what we need.
