Summer transfer window 2023

I think there are multiple strategies a club like Everton can adopt through stages of growth or on the path to be more successful. I agree you can’t copy another club completely but you can adopt certain aspects of how they operate.

Taking Brighton for example, like any club they will buy duds, and good players….they seem to be on a good run of gaining net benefits from their transfer transactions, but it’s what underneath that to get those results that’s the thing to look at. For instance they seem to have good contacts in South America, they identify them and bring them over to their feeder club to develop. This is something Everton should consider doing.

The reality is, that whatever our pedigree and our potential, we have to think like a Brighton to get to a foundational level to build on that success. As we grow and become more sustainable, we wouldn’t necessarily cast off the feeder club but we can’t start to act like clubs who are bigger but we should not try and run before we walk….it is trying to do that initially and that ‘small window of opportunity’ as Moshiri put it, that landed us in this mess. Yes, we should try and be at the top of the game, but that is something we should aspire to once we have gone through a number of development phases.
Everton just need an obvious overhaul of the club, We will have one of the best stadiums around, and we will gradually be building ourselves on and off the pitch to eventually get us back to working order.

No, It won't be short term, but we have to believe we will get there, back to a club we can all be proud of..

But that club that I want to see and smile about, is EVERTON ( and how they have chosen to do things ) - Not Bloody Brighton !!!

We all thought it was just the Koeman and Walsh deals that were responsible for crippling the club.

Williams, Sigurdsson, Klaassen, Rooney, Bolasie, and Schneiderlin were all players we gave massive deals to and then either gave away for free or booked a big loss on.

Then came some of Silva and Brands' own contributions of Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes, G'Bamin, and Iwobi. Again massive wages and no money coming back.

Then we get to Ancelotti and have Rodriguez, Allan, and Doucoure added to the mix. Ben Godfrey is in here somewhere. Again, massive wages and no money coming back.

We all said it would take us years to dig ourselves out of the Walsh and Koeman years and then we did even worse. There's about 10 or so deals worth 2-300 million in fees and more in wages that's just been lashed away.
Williams 11m
Morgan 20m sold for 2m
Siggy 45m
Klassen 20m sold for 12m
Bolasie 27m
Gomes 20m
Gbamin 20m
Iwobi 34m
Delph 8m
Mina 27m
Tuson 27m
Walcott 20m
Sandro 5m
Allan 20m

That’s 285m spent on those players and we recouped 14m

I shudder to think of the wages these were on but just in transfer fees … I can’t think of a team that got it ao wrong.

With wages drained you can add in

Bernard
Townsend
Davies
Vinagre
El ghazie ( spelling)

I can’t think of a worse recruitment club in the league … Man U are bad but we literally set fire to money

Only we could suddenly come into cash and make ourselves so much worse

Not having money is one thing but I want to know why we have such a big scouting team and we are talking about Man Utd and Leeds players. Where is the next Mahrez? Or South American we could take a chance on? That is Money we are wasting.

Everton only supply two 5 litre Gerri cans of fuel a scout each week . Meaning they rarely leave the county

Because we don’t make any money as a business and our wage bill is through the roof.
So it's simply down to overpaid players and poor business deals such as sponsorships, endorsements etc? How come other teams that performed badly and have a far higher net spend are ok with FFP? Is the club that incompetent on the business side?

There's a lot of bad luck there, injuries killed off Gbamin, Gomes and Bolasie. We were about to get a fee for Tosun but then he did his ACL. Sigurdsson, at least from the club's POV was really unfortunate. Mina, though a fair few quid was a good player for us and while Iwobi will never justify his full fee he is now one our better players.

I think Man U are probably worse but obviously they can just keep spending to solve the problem, we can't.
