More down to that no mark Thelwell on that occasion. A pip squeak with no heft to influence the owner to loosen the purse strings for it at that time.
Thelwell has shown he is not particularly effective at the first team side of things whilst he is making changes behind the scenes, and while I agree he should get flak for signings like Maupay, and even possibly the deal which saw Nkounkou leave on what seems to be a poor deal, I am not sure he would have the final say on the timing of when purchase go through.

As far as I see it, there is the accounting period where we have had to walk a tightrope due to P&S concerns (possibly with rumoured PL oversight) and then he‘s possibly had to deal with the negotiation tactic master, BK. Apart from one or two seasons Everton has always been slow to sign players and that pre dated Thelwell, which is the reason for my doubt on his culpability last season as regards speed of signings.

Thelwell has been effective at everything aside from forward positions.

Sporting Lisbon in for Gyökeres for 20m euros. Thought it'd be worth posting in here as we've had genuine links to him, too.

It’s understood that a fee of £11.2million will be enough for the Championship outfit to cash in on him in the coming weeks

Ask yourselves one question. Why would Tammy Abraham want to come here?
Prem minutes. He knows he's still young enough to get a big last contract Prem payday like Lukaku if he tears the league up for a couple of seasons, forces his way into meaningful England minutes and does work for the Three Lions. That's probably what he's looking for at the moment.

There aren't a ton of other Prem clubs (other than the promoted sides) he walks into and gets all those minutes with certainty from day one. I would be a little worried about chance creation, if I were him. That is, as others say, what makes us look less attractive than alternatives.

Which was the area of highest priority

Well, we also brought in 2 centre backs, 3 centre midfielders a left back and a left midfielder.

Maupay and Vinagre failed but the rest have been decent at worst.

But this is why ive been saying we need to aim for quality over quantity. Instead of aiming for 7 new signings...Thelwell should focus on a centre forward and a winger/attacking midfielder.

They prioritised being more difficult to beat, but also focused in purchasing players that don’t break down every five minutes so in that sense some of the purchases have been ok. We knew we were going to sell Richarlison, in January we knew there was a good chance we would sell Gordon so it really depends on whether your it is Thelwell or the club to blame for not bringing a striker and whilst at appreciate what you say around the other purchases, the key area in my opinion wss not strengthened adequately.

Everton are trying to clinch a £27m deal for Roma's England striker Tammy Abraham, 25.

Another strike who cant score? Anyone know about this guy and feel there is any truth or just summer time page filling dross?

In the same vein as the Vardy and Chris Wood discussion, is Utd sign Mount and Eriksen became available, whats peoples views on him? Personally, I would bring him in - there I’ve said it!!

Reckon he’d get games at a European team easliy. Wellbeck got a shedload of minutes for Brighton last season, Villa another team I could see him going to. Even European finalists West Ham.
Kane looks a certainty to leave spurs and with goal scorers currently few and far between, wouldn’t surprise me to see him going there.
