if we don't get pens he doesnt pad his stats, if he doesnt get several free kicks in dangerous positions he doesnt have the chance to score from them.

i'd rather have a player who is more dangerous/creative in open play, than someone who relies on dead balls.

I never understand the point on set peices mate - on JWP he’s amazingly consistent with goals and assists. I wouldn’t be on board with people saying Ed totally relying on set voices, he’s very good at them. But he can also split a line with a pass.

Exhibit A was against us at home this year he tore us apart from open play. Game changer.

He won’t come here like. But I can see why we would be interested, we need goals and assists and the dude posts almost double figures year in year out - hugely enabling!

McNeil and Garner take a great set piece so we're not lacking there.

i had a similar discussion with someone a few weeks ago mate and looked into it, he gets 2/3 goals a season that arent pens/free kicks, as you say they don't count for any less, i just dont think he's very good in his general play.

he's nearly 30, big money and big money, just exactly the type of signing we shouldn't even be talking about.

He's begged Coventry not to sell him to the highest bidder but to let him play where he wants. We should let him go to Sporting.

If he wants to go to Sporting then I agree we should leave him to it. At 25 coming into the peak of your career players want to be leaving Portugal for a top league, not choosing it over one. Can see the attraction of Sporting but having only ever really played in the Championship if he backs himself to be a top player now is the time to show it in the PL. If warm weather and easy defences are what he fancies he’s not for us anyway.

his goals and assists are mostly from set pieces though, what if we dont get 3/4 pens a season, or free kicks in dangerous positions all the time.

he's not awful, but i genuinely dont think he improves us that much, wouldnt pay a penny over 15m for him and not worth the wages he wants.

he'll go to someone like west ham and just be "ok"

Yes definitely not in a position to be over paying I’d imagine he’d be in the region of 30m or more I’d rather get 2 players in for that money.

I feel that Stanley Mills will be used this season and he plays on the right wing.

I think we need.
A back up keeper,
A left back,
Creative midfielder
At least one striker.

I think we will try to sign players who are comfortable in a couple of positions. Maybe some who can play wide but also as a striker, something like Richarlison.
