A couple of people have mentioned defence being ok - but that was with Mina in it, right ?

Tarks and....Keane, Godfrey, Holgate ? Pretty bad.

Tarks and Coady, Branthwaite ? A bit better but you'd have a fit Mina over all of them.
Correct. We're bad all over the pitch, it's why we scored 36 points in a 38 match season.

Onana seems to be a particularly contentious point re whether we would sell or not. He cost us £33m - do we think we have had a £33m players worth of performances from him this season? (I’m not blaming the lad by the way, he’s only 21 and in a struggling club in turmoil with a change of manager and in a new league)

If the answer is no to my question above, due to the factors above I have mentioned, why would we not sell him, if we received a bid of say, £55-£60m in order to provide further funds to strengthen the team in more than one area? If we’ve got a player not putting in £33m player performances then surely it makes sense from a team strengthening, profit and sustainability aspect? Just interested if anyone has thoughts?

GK: Pickford, Begovic

RB: Patterson, new RB, Coleman

CB: Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Godfrey, new CB, Coady

LB: Mykolenko, new LB

DM: Onana, Gueye

CM: Garner, Doucoure, new midfielder, new midfielder, Warrington

RW: New RW, Gray

CF: New CF, DCL, Simms

LW: McNeil, new LW, Dobbin.

This is what I think would be an ok squad for next season.

Some big outs: Keane Holgate Mina Vinagre, Iwobi, Davies, Gbamin, Gomes, Dele, Townsend, Maupay

Plus a lot of new signings in key areas: CB, LB, RB, 2 x MF, RW, LW, CF.

I don’t think we’ll see anything like this pace of change though and it wouldn’t surprise me at all to still see Keane and Iwobi here next season.

There’s an awful lot of work that needs doing to the squad. I hope that we might be able to get some use from Warrington Dobbin Branthwaite otherwise we have an awful lot of recruitment to do.

Think there's bigger priorities than new CB, RB.

Need more goals in team, 45-50 to hit mid table.

Goalscoring winger + 2 strikers. Simms isn't PL player imo.

We'll be saving significant wages this summer with contracts ending;
Mina- £120k a week
Townsend- £50k a week
Davies- £30k a week
I'd imagine if Coleman gets an extra year it will be on reduced terms, maybe saving £20k?
Plus the wages we've been paying Vinagre for doing nothing and Coady is probably another £80k.

That's something like £300k a week. Plus Thelwell needs to earn his money by moving on the likes of Gomes, Gbamin, Dele, Holgate, Keane, Maupay to make room for new signings.
Townsend and Davies are on a lot more than that.

He’s about 6”5 and 21 started 11 games in the French league last season and people expect him to come to one the worst sides in the toughest league and drive the team forward on his own. He’s playing more as a midfielder, doucoure is getting goals because he’s playing off the striker.

Onana has got a lot of talent Imo. Wouldn’t be getting games for Belgium if he didn’t. If we could get 60 now, imagine what we could get in 2/3yrs. I’d sell Pickford out of the 2
The problem is, you know what your getting with Pickford, he's easily been worth a half a dozen points this season, whereas with Onana your gambling in what he might bring. I accept that he might end up being the new Viera or whoever but he might not. At this point in time I'd keep the points in the bag (Pickford) but I understand people wanting to keep the potential superstar. Ideally we'd keep both, but we're not in an ideal situation.

Is new investment going to actually help that much?

with P&S limits, surely any new investment is kind of useless? Or have we freed up some wriggle room to spend some money?
New investment (if we're talking the MSP thing) is to fund the stadium, not to fund a transfer pot, so I doubt it will make any difference on that front. Their involvement may lead to new/more revenue streams in the future which would be legit income, but for this summer it'll probably be a similar situation to last summer, maybe a bit more if the Gordon/Moise Kean money is available to be used.

We weren't paying that money for instant impact. We were paying for potential. Will that pay off, we may never know as all the noise is suggesting he'll be the book balancer this year? However, if he is, and we get the £60m touted, then nobody could argue it wasn't a worthwhile signing.

We deffo need a RB. I'm not sure how watching Holgate, Godfrey and Garner play RB hasn't crystallised that for you but we deffo need one.
