Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

….the reality is a large number of regular starters are out of contract next season, it’s the mess Moyes has inherited. I don’t think we can pay mega bucks replacing them all immediately, we will need numbers in and they won’t all be high-profile superstars.

12/13 place next season could be the short-term aim.
I'm thinking top 6...

I hope I am wrong, but not sure TFG is planning to spend big this summer. They will run the club as a business hoping that it will essentially fund itself. We have barely 10 players on the books come next season, and you see more activity from other clubs on signings and contract extension. Us, nothing...just that we are waiting to ensure we are a pl club come next season. I don't see the ambition yet...
If we aren’t rushing to extend contracts then it’s a sign we re going to spend big and believe we can buy better. Don’t believe the rubbish about being confirmed a prem club, we already are and they know it

Let's say they have identified they need 8 players and have a budget of £100 million with no significant outgoings in terms of fees received. I don't think we'll spend that amount myself.

That would be an average £12.5m per signing. It's not going to be like that obviously but it does illustrate the constraints they'll be under.

To make that budget stretch and allow one relatively marquee signing by those standards, they are going to need to do a lot of shopping in The Championship and abroad, and top it up with loans and frees.

I guess that we'll have at least 3 or 4 players in that are are going to be unknown to most of us, added to with signings of the like of Soucek / Coufal.

12th/13th would be a totally unacceptable aim in my opinion. I'd say we have a squad that could finish there already, I will be very disappointed if 18 months after the new owners have come in and 18 months into Moyes 2 1/2 year contract we're no better than we were when they started. I think we have to be aiming for the top 10 as a minimum, with the potential to sneak a few places higher. Setting targets in the bottom half of the league would be pretty embarrassing really, not quite the new dawn we've been hoping for.

If we could wrestle that 12th place trophy from Palace next season I would be more than happy, probably target getting to 50 points or more would be a good first full season for Moyes, given the turnover of the squad and the uncertainty of moving to a new stadium.

While i wouldn't be disappointed with it I'd want to be aiming higher

  • The 3 teams coming up will be just as bad as the bottom 3 this season
  • Wolves just dont seem to be looking to invest any more running on a 'good offer you can be sold' basis, which could lead to Cunha going
  • We are already better than Palace & Brentford, and would be above both if we had Moyes since August
  • Bournemouth will be gutted out left with Lewis Cook and some undercooked South Americans
  • Brighton are undies, once Welbecks legs go and they inevitably win the net spend league they will gradually get that little bit less competitive
  • Not a chance Forest will be as good juggling league and Europe next season
  • United are still a mess and will still be
  • I like Fulham, they are steady, but they can easily go on a poor run which Silva can struggle with at times
  • West Ham could be hit and miss with Potter, he's not pulled up any trees yet
That's 12 sides with question marks over them, which you could easily argue could finish below us (argument maybe 5 or 6 could finish above us), but thats the whole point of a league isn't it, to try and be better than the others?

Interesting that out of all the Sunderland players that have a high profile for a move in the upcoming transfer window - Brighton went for this lad.

Because he was only £10m quid, not in there first team and they will be expecting a lot more for the likes of Bellingham, Rigg, Cirkin etc

Wait... Where we would have finished last season without the deductions or where we are one win away from this season?

Na, a change can happen quickly, we can challenge in the top half next season/for conference league if we get the summer business right.

We finished 11/12th last season based on points

…..minimum requirement given the number of players that might need replacing;

DCL, Doucoure, Gueye, Young, Harrison, Lindstrom, Alcaraz and Mangala have started lots of games this season and are not contracted to be here. Then add in the likes of Broja, Coleman and Keane. It’s a major rebuild required, a major challenge for Moyes and his recruitment team.

If we sign ready made players like @Raino85 wants then 12th is unacceptable.

If we focus on a rebuild with younger, developing players then 12th might be acceptable.

Depending of course on the money spent.

Personally, i'd like to see younger players signed and 8th place as being the finishing point next season.

It's highly likely 2 or 3 of those will be here, and some of the others are easily replaceable/already replaced. I don't know where people have got this idea from that signing 6 or 7 players is some gargantuan undertaking - teams do it every season.
