Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

CM at the moment is:

Gana Out of contract but likely extension
Garner 1 year + 1 year option (i think)
Iroegbunam 2 years
Armstrong 3 years

ACM of course

Alcaraz on loan
Doucoure out of contract
McNeil 2 years

I think we could do with a top notch young central midfielder.
Presuming we extend Gana for a year and sign Alcaraz on a permanent then this is the summer when we need to buy at least one young midfielder who after a year of playing and training will either replace Gana or displace Garner as he has a higher ceiling.

August 2026 we then have Armstrong Alcaraz and the new guy as our starting midfield with Tim and Garner as back up

I would love to see one top class midfielder in our engine room a definite starter.

I agree

However I think most of our budget this summer will go on a striker and a right winger. That is where new signings will make an immediate and significant difference to the starting eleven.

Therefore I think we will plan longer term in midfield unless there is a free or loan we can pick up.

Before anyone chips in I also see both full backs as an area needing improvement but the cost will be much less than the attacking players

I would love us to buy 3 starters 1 centre mid, a centre forward and a right winger.

Pull isn't necessarily the problem. It's finding the talent and going for the right guys. If you go for guys that have 7-8 teams after them, it will always be difficult to sign them. Or for instance in Leeds case, they won't deal with us if they don't have to. I don't think most players would turn us down. Competing for other teams with signings and going all in for months and losing is what will waste valuable time that could be spent elsewhere.

Most clubs will pay similar writhing a salary bracket so if competing with other clubs for a players signature, the key factors are likely to be 1) prospects of winning a trophy or CL or alternatively for young players 2) chances of playing for county enhanced 3) career development e.g. are they going to get game time if a young player, will they see their game improve. The style a team plays needs to suit a player as well.

Yep. Some players prefer the money, some prefer the glory and some will sign with a side simply because they know they will play and can make a name for themselves. As I said, you have to identify the right guys and find common ground. If you are trying to compete for somebody whose agent is taking selfies in the Barcelona parking lot, you've already lost.

This window has Branthwaite for Stones + £40M written all over it.

Would you have Stones back if he took the pay cut?
Could play either CB or fill in as DM, when fit that is…
