Summer Transfer Window 2025 Thread

I think we will spend pretty big. You can add a load of amortisation with relatively low wiggle room. And if everything else is within PSR limits adding 50m in revenue equates to a significant increase in spending power. Those 3 year rolling losses are of limited importance as two of the years (including the worst)fall off by the time the 25/26 calcs are done. By 25/26 ONLY the result announced will be on the three year calculations and those numbers are broadly fine.
Yes and from July 1st it’s the 25/26 season
And then we have till June 30th 2026 to
Balance the accounts.
And we probably lose branthwaite in
That period , not what we want, but likely to happen and we will be miles ahead of the curve if that happens

Sell to buy FC again.

Why? The accounts released today are for 2023-24 and don't reflect the TFG refinancing and additional revenues/sponsorship expected to be generated by BMD in future periods, across which player purchases will be amortised.

What is essential, is spending well with a robust recruitment strategy, otherwise we could just end up back where we were. My bigger concern is all the staff changes happening at a crucial time.

Great if he can be extended.

Villa have a squad of about 24 first team players, most of whom are on high wages and quite a few are nearing the end of their careers. They are storing up psr trouble albeit they got a great fee for Dhuran which will help them. Newcastle are in a similar situation and will have to sell Gordon, Isaak or Guimares to balance the books.

I'm not advocating selling Branthwaite just saying if we don't qualify for Europe next season he'll want to leave and then we'll have to sell him because he'll be in the last 2 years of his contract and because his performance will drop if he's unhappy.

We have to be realistic about where we are now and try and move forward so we can get sustained success.

We need to show Branthwaite we want him to stay -- by "we" i mean TFG and by "show" i mean a fat contract + signing quality that he will want to play alongside.

Youre right about Villa and Newcastle but lets not forget they dont have a potentially massive stadium game changer.

Would sell Mcneil or Beto if we get decent offers. Garner would keep he is a good player and we can execute his extension, he only has a year left this summer we would get around what we paid and would have to replace him. Re right wingers there are plenty in the championship and in smaller leagues with pace and who can weigh in with goals if you do your scouting right.

The issue is replacing too many players in one go i think.

Again, doesn't sound positive. Hope it doesn't impact the summer window too badly.

If TFG sign a couple of big sponsors then were in business. They must have some lined up at this point.

We were 1 point off 10th last season and then the manager spent all summer talking about relegation scraps and spent the first half of the season setting the team up for a relegation scrap.

There was no reason we couldn’t have been in that 8-12th grouping when you think about the results you just posted above.

Thats the area i posted that i thought we would finish. Yet we setup so negatively.

This is the first real test of the Friedkin era. They had to get in a new manager ahead of their desired timeline, but they'll have had a while to plan the playing squad revamp and work out how they are going to keep Branthwaite.

His stock is rising no matter his omission from the England squad. I see Didi Hamann in the Irish newspapers saying he's worth his "waite" in gold and that "Everton fans would understand if he joined Liverpool as Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Yes, Didi. We'll understand about as much as you did when "Trent" left for Madrid, the actual biggest club in the world.

So, pay Branthwaite what he is worth in the market, buy some undoubted quality at first realistic opportunity, and send out a statement that Everton does not sell to rivals.

Agree, I think the doom merchants will be wrong. And of course they will be happy about that.

Still unlikely to be as much spending as we need if we have 3 year rolling losses of £180m - even with PSR write offs. Probably on for a tighter summer than we should have for a side that hasn't invested properly for years and has over 10 players out of contract in the summer.

I don't mean to be disrespectful mate, but these numbers would hint at more wriggle room.

Adam Wharton looked great for Palace today, as did Eze. Both signed from The Championship. Maybe we should be looking there.

If you took two players of that quality and slotted them into our team at e.g RW & CF how many places may that improve us?

We can sign players from the championship, overseas or wherever -- its got to be a bit of a mix.

They havent had to sell any of them so far.

Both clubs have gone balls out, used there generally high status as big sleeping giants to attract a certain type of player, and kept them.

If Newcastle have to sell they will do what they have been doing and sell squad players like they did with St Maxim, Almorin, Anderson etc etc

As for the Villa players near the end of there careers??????? Such as who?
The best player in the league is a 33 year old Mo Salah
Our best player this season has been a 35 year old Idrissa Gueye

Throw in Van Dijk (33), Bruno Fernandes (30), Chris Wood (33), Dan Burn (32), Raul Jiminez (33), Thomas Soucek (30), all been excellent this season and thats just off the top of my head.
I very much doubt Villa are worried that Ollie Watkins is 29

Those players that you mentioned, fast forward to the end of a 3year PSR cycle (rules are changing) and how many players that are valuable 1st eleven players now, will still be at their peak performance level ?

Lets take the RS as an example:
Alison 32
Van Dijk 33
Gomez 27
Tsimikas 28
Robertson 31
Endo 32
Diaz 28
Salah 32
Jota 28

Thats 9/25 players who will be over 30 and either need replacing or see their value diminish.

You also may have the odd TAA situation where a younger player could leave on a free or someone suffers a bad injury.

How would they replace all of these players in a 3 year PSR cycle with comparable quality?

Its not sustainable to hold onto ageing players unless you already have their replacements coming through or signed at low cost.

For me, West Ham and Villa are going to need to spend a lot of money soon.

Maybe because they are more interesting in winning things like the league title instead of 'building'

Villa are one game away from a cup final and are on a Champions League run
West Ham won a European trophy

They may have to spend a lot of money soon, but they have had fun in the meantime

West Ham can spend a fortune every year, they have a 60;000 capacity stadium that they don't have to pay to maintain. Villa are a different kettle of fish though and may well be in big trouble in about 18 months.
