Super League 2025

Very sad news out of Widnes today that Dougie Laughton has passed away. Arguably one of the greatest coaching minds the game produced in this country. A leader amongst men, great player, great coach and a visionary for the sport of Rugby League.

That team he built at Widnes in the 80’s was one of the greatest club sides ever and had everything. A mix of local lads with an influence of players from Rugby Union to make Widnes, a small town become the first official world club champions was some achievement. Still mad that Widnes beat an Australian club side with the quality of players Canberra had, from Ricky Stuart, Laurie Daly, Mal Meninga, Gary Belcher, Chris O’Sullivan and so many more.

Thanks for the memories Sir Douglas.

Great memories following that brilliant Widnes team around throughout my youth with cup and league titles, culminating in beating Canberra.

Karalius, Myler, Laughton and Adams rugby heroes of my youth.
