Dynamite from Tony Evans - authoritative journo (The Times) and Reds fan: Webchat on RAWK - Warning: You may want to go and get a glass of your favourite tipple to celebrate

OPENING COMMENTS
...if the current ownership situation remained, then Torres and Gerrard would consider their future. I also said moves were afoot to 'extricate them with dignity'. Which they were.
I believe the captain mulled over Real - which would have meant him -putting in a transfer request and I don't think he'd do that - and Torres has been persuaded to give it more time. He doesn't want to leave but knows the ownership situation is untenable.
If Martin Broughton does not find a buyer by January, then Torres will leave the club.

STADIUM
The council are growing tired of H&G's antics and will close the whole thing down as early as next year. The owners' budget just about stretches to a Subbuteo stadium

TORRES
If investment arrives, Torres won't leave in the forseeable future. If it doesn't, January. (later he suggests Chelsea or Citteh)

OTHER BIDDERS?
Kirdi's backers could be real but have shown no money
Rhone are still talking but don't have the money.
Krafts can't afford it and the Al-Kharafi's are out.

TRANSFER TARGETS?
Konchesky as about our market these days
I'd be surprised to see Crouch back. Mascherano will leave. Can't see many other arrivals

TAKEOVER SOON?
this nightmare will linger and linger

That's fricken diamond encrusted gold that is.

KenWANG

So let me get this straight.

Torres is holding them to ransom unless they go out and buy 3+ world class players...

I thought no one player was bigger than the club?? any club, that is.

Why did he not just go to a team already full of superstars if he wanted to win things. The RS have never won the premier league FFS, what was he hoping for??

and,

he is past it. Some players are just not the same after injury. If he scores 20 goals this season feel free to bring this up and post a warm turd thru my letter box.

I think you're only as good as you are playing at the moment, and quite frankly he is crap. This season he will be getting yellow cards out of the sheer frustration that he is not as good as he was...

we all know how he doesn't like it when its not going his way.

You see mate this is why some Evertonians are just like Kopites in their delusional chatter.

Fernando Torres is not crap, he's just going through a bad patch. The boy is still top 5 striker in the world, and when fit and scoring goals there is maybe 1 or 2 who can finish the ball like him.

I'm an Evertonian through and through, but I would take Torres over any striker we have had at the club in the past 20 years.

okay fair enough,

I agree some of the finishes he has produced in the past are outstanding, and I also agree that in the past he has been an extra-ordinary talent.

but if, after 15 games he has still not scored and is playing badly, would you still say he is top 5 in the world???

Yeah I would. You don't become [Poor language removed] overnight mate. Injuries or not, the lads is still young, it's just unfortunate that he finds himself playing for a bunch of averages.

okay fair do's again but at what point of playing poorly would you say he is no longer top 5?

If he plays 30 poor games, still top 5?

coz we both know that no one stays the best player in the world forever, or in the top 5.

56 goals in 80 games mate, I think your writing the boy off:

1. because he didn't show in the world cup - but he was unfit
2. because he plays for Liverpool and Liverpool are supposed to be crap by the laws of being an Evertonian

If Torres scores less than 15 goals this season in say 50 games, then I would say he is losing his touch.

The big question for me is whether he will get his pace back, as you're right that he won't become crap over night,

but you can become slower over night, which is a big factor in my opinion of Mr Torres. He seems so slow, when his pace is one of the things that used to make him such a threat,

just look at the Yak's lock-in at Greggs. But then again Yak is only 23.
