Hi all,

Wonder if any of you techie guys can help. I need to buy a desk top with the following spec:

CPU: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)

RAM: 8 GB

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 2GB / AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB

Any suggestions - thanks
What do you use it for?

That's a decent spec, as long as you're not a gamer, as the GPU is a bit weak for top end gaming.

The single biggest upgrade you can do to a PC/Laptop is have a SSD drive for your operating system, really improves performance more than any other component.

Edit; just seen all the replies, bit late.

What's your budget mate? You can probably do better than that. All of that stuff is at least a generation old if not more.

I think the first point you need to clarify is your budget! Only then would anyone be able to properly advise you.

Let's say £600...

Christ, y'all get bent over a table when it comes to buying electronics. Higher starting prices and then VAT to boot.

Anyway, I'd suggest this: http://www.ginger6.com/g6-infinity-x3-gaming-pc.html

Sorry @moutsgoat, I know this is basically what you got with an Intel... AMD's are pretty terrible nowadays. Consume more power and are almost always slower, or their CPU power isn't available because most games aren't written for 6 or 8 cores.

Yep, I knew all this when I bought it, but it was a bit cheaper and im not playing anything taxing at the moment so its not an issue.

Thanks mate, you said this website was well recommended? Appreciate your advice

2 of my mates, my brother and I myself have all bought from them, 1 of my friends was sent the wrong power cable, the correct 1 was sent out 1st class the next day, other than that, none of us had any after sales issues, so cant judge that, but did a few google searches and on the main people only had good things to say.

Yeah, I used to have this crazy gaming rig with an i5 4670K and a GTX 780.

And then I realized I didn't really play any games newer than 2013 on it anyway, so I sold it. Have just an older laptop now, will be replacing it pretty soon hopefully.

I just don't really play new AAA titles anymore.

Blimey, ok, I feel old !

Is the following sensible as I need to buy a package really....cos I am out of my depth.

Intel core i7 4790 processor -3.60GHZ, 1600Mhz, 8mb
aMD R9 255 2GB graphics
1TB + 8gb 7200 rpm

Any views ?

I hate AMD Graphic cards.

Just a personal choice more than anything, years ago, whenever I played games, all my friends who had AMD always seemed to have issues.

Im pretty sure its not the same these days, but I will always buy Nvdia when possible.

Not sure you need an i7 tho, but thats just me being a cheap arse.
