Tell Me Something I Don't Know!

Build in 1950 The original Crystal Palace was the 1st building put together using Whitworth Screw Theaded bolts (or any bolts for that matter)
Made out of Cast Iron and Glass it was nearly a 1/3 of a mile long and was completed in 190 days
Burnt down in 1936...which allegedly was a bit suss at the time...

The Crystal Palace building has a local connection for me . All the glass was made and provided by Chances Glass in Smethwick

Still to this day i cannot fathom how a building made of glass and iron can burn down!
