It's undeniable that without Medvedev Wimbledon have been left with a dead semi final spot too.

They pay for that today big time with coverage of one of the great events of any GS tournament gone completely.

Even in the women's event a Russian - to all intents and purposes - has come through to be firm favourite to lift the title. Now they look a joke too.

It's been a disastrous decision by the Wing Commodores (ret) of the Wimbledon committee to cravenly follow their own Tory Government's propaganda line.
I've no idea how the draw would have been so I can't say where Medvedev would have landed, he could be sat on a by where Kyrgios is.
?
Suppose we're lucky Nadal didn't carry on and void the final.
As for the ladies, it was anyones after Swiatek threw her first loss this year in with a diabolical display.
Give Putin a ring, see if him or one of his KGB can hold a racket. Can see whoever in a hazmat suit but it'd be a laugh...

Given how Djokovic played in the quarters I think Nadal would have fancied his chances. Of course on grass Novak should win but I wouldn't immediately say it's going to be straightforward, especially at the US open that is a slower court. That's if Djokovic is allowed to play Australia and the US given his vaccine status.
I always felt "if" Djock didn't win it this year it would be of the 'unexpected upset' kind. I think he was relishing dusting Nadal in the final, especially as he was on the verge of going top of the GS list earlier this year (prevented by his rather silly anti-vax views added to the fact that Wimbledon was cancelled in 2020, while the other GS happened) and he now finds himself two behind when he would've had thrashed Nadal if they met in the Aussie, like he did a few years ago (and which he will do again if he's allowed in next time). The US will be the closest to call, agree there, but again I'm very confident Djock will beat him whenever they meet again in any GS. I even give him a 50/50 shot in the French next year, he looks a lot fresher to me.

lol

That's about the strength of it, yes.

The girl will be hounded now to throw Russia under the bus.

Watch the media go to work with this.

:coffee:

Asked if she still “feels Russian”, Rybakina – who will play third seed Ons Jabeur on Saturday – said: “What does it mean for you to feel? I mean, I’m playing tennis, so for me, I’m enjoying my time here. “I feel for the players who couldn’t come here, but I’m just enjoying playing here on the biggest stage, enjoying my time and trying to do my best. “I was born in Russia, yes, but I’m representing Kazakhstan. I don’t know why we have to come back to this.

I like Nadal but I feel he should have retired hurt during the last game, he must have realised the injury was getting worse. So Kyrgios now has 4 days rest, rather unfair on Norrie/Djokovic.

Laughing at the South African.
