It's hard to overstate how big, culturally speaking, deer hunting is in rural parts of West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and elsewhere. While it is not my thing, deer hunting does a serve a function with respect to keeping the population regulated since humans have pretty much killed off/diminished their natural predators. Hunting is perhaps particularly important as deer-car collisions are a huge burden on the economy and individuals (I speak from experience), and preliminary data suggests extending the hunting season is one way to reduce these collisions.My mate Mike lives in West Virginia and bagged himself this earlier today...

Sorry for the pedantry, but I was just talking about this issue with some friends the other day since it is deer season in our counties in Virginia right now, and it made me chase up if there was a relationship between deer hunting and deer-car collisions.
Anyways, let's all be thankful for being not deer.
