WOMENS SUPER LEAGUE
SPURS WOMEN 2 EVERTON WOMEN 2
Everton women were back in Womens Super League Action tonight for the 1st time in 10 days after the whole weekends cancellation of Games, they had 4 league defeats from last 5 spread over nearly 3 months with the Derby been 1 of 3 games called of for Everton during that time - others were west ham away due to the west ham women having Flu and the home chelsea game been called off due to a frozen pitch - 3 of those defeats came v teams i would expect defeat against Man utd away,Arsenal home,Man city away while the last away defeat at Brighton was a surprise but on the day Everton just did not turn up and got what they deserved, while that defeat was the 1st time in 5 months Everton had not scored in the league since september or 1st time in any comp since december
Anyway Everton women in 5th place 1 point behind man utd in 4th and 2 points above spurs women in 7th won the corresponding fixture 3-1 in November, the highest any of these teams and others would be looking for was a 4th place finish behind the women's big 3 of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City - Everton have been the surprise package of the season but the run of form has been a bit wayward of late as said with a win/lose run record in last 13/14 months of won 10 - lost 16 in last 26 league games, last draw for Everton in league was Jan last year and the previous draw before that came Oct 2018 both v Brighton
Korpela returned in the Everton goal tonight for the 1st time in 4 games after not been picked while again for the 2nd time in not long Everton had 2 sub keepers on the bench which surely shows that they dont have many players available at the minute, Izzy Christiansen injured in training the 1st week she was here with a calf strain still does not make it, while Aus superstar Hayley Raso is on International duty helping them qualify for this years Olympic Games, she should make her debut Monday in the FA Cup game at Bristol City, lucy Quinn the scorer v Everton in November started as sub along with Ex Toffee Siri Worm who started that game back in November but was subbed at Half Time
Everton started brightly with Lucy Graham putting a near inch-perfect angled pass through in the 18 yard area for Chloe Kelly which she just failed to get on to the end off, with the Spurs keeper Rebecca Spencer sliding out to get and taking a knock on the head in the 2nd minute, French Star Maéva Clemaron then took aim with a curler from around 30 yards which was wide for Everton, but it was all Everton in the 1st 10mins who looked lively with spurs barely even getting into the Everton half, and Everton should have gone 1-0 ahead on 22mins when the ball was played through for Chaney Boye-Hlorkah but she saw her shot saved left handed by Rebecca Spencer with the rebound falling to Chloe Kelly who half missed it with the spurs players surrounding her but she would have still expected to score, Magill then had 2 quick chances in the space of seconds, the 1st when the spurs keeper saw her throw hit one of the Everton players on the back but magill saw her chance blocked by the keeper and defender, and the 2nd she miss hit her chance from the cross from the right, Spurs then had a rare chance brought on by spurs winning the ball from the Everton back line from a throw and Rianna Dean for spurs tried a curler but it did not curl enough and it hit the outside of the post which was surely harder to do than score, but the the pressure had been comming quick and fast from Everton and right from that spurs chance Everton took the deserved lead which finally arrived on 31mins when Chloe Kelly's thunderbolt her ninth WSL goal of this campaign beat spurs keeper Spencer from the edge of the area after Everton won the ball off spurs via Excellent work from Magill with the excellent pull back and pass from Kaagman-It was a great goal and at half time Everton went in with a 1-0 lead which could and should have been more after having 11 shots and 5 on target with spurs having 3 shots with none on target, spurs were showing nothing really to cause Everton any problems
The 2nd half very nearly brought a 2nd for Everton in the 1st 20 seconds when Lucy Graham send Boye-Hlorkah down the right wing and Chloe Kelly just could not reach the cross from Boye-Hlorkah and again it could have been 2 on 51mins after a super angled cross from Kelly in Midfield for Boye-Hlorkah to race onto, she on the half volley shot wide with just the keeper to beat but that 2nd goal did come when the keepers clearance was headed down by Boye-Hlorkah she found Magill who did well controlling before her pass found Kaagamn who shot left footed to beat the keeper to her left, Spurs somehow right from no where then pulled one back with there 1st shot on target when a cross from the right from Percival was headed home by Angela Addison,Chloe kelly then got injured and it did not look good on her ankle on 73mins but on 77mins spurs were down to 10 when Rosella Ayane was give a straight Red for a 2 footed tackle even though the Everton player went in same time i think. but somehow spurs were awarded a free kick and from that free kick on loan Arsenal player Emma Mitchell scored a fantastic goal from around 30 yards out,Kaagman then should have put Everton back infront on 88mins when from yards out she somehow failed with her shot shooting over left footed though she did not connect correctly, the game somehow remarkably ended 2-2 with spurs having only 6 shots with the 2 goals been there only 2 on target and Everton been by far the better team,Everton insteaf of been 4th for the 2nd time in a row somehow are not 6th
Everton women now take a league break to play in FA CUP ACTION monday night away to Bristol City, A 7.30pm ko,and after that Everton Women return to league action to play there 1st Ever game at WALTON PARK on Sunday 23rd Feb with a 12.30pm ko
