It's no accident that in the same week two clubs announce plans for 100k+ new stadia.

The entire league has stood in awe at the newest stadium to join the league rota and know it's time to up the game.

If either man utd or newcastle break ground on their big new plans before 2030 I'll be amazed. We're about to load 13,5k extra fans into our ground, with massively increased bespoke corporate hospitality almost city centre, and we'll have a naming rights deal. I wonder who is the first international music act at BMD.

It's only a jump of three places, but 52,888 means joining that league of clubs in that zone, 10k behind 2nd to 5th. 20k behind man utd.

Problem is though that the likes of Villa definitely and Chelsea eventually will also expand or completely rebuild, Man City are currently extending up to 61k approx, and could expand up to 75-80k if they expand the remaining two stands. There's talk of Arsenal putting another tier on the Emirates, although they might do it like City of a stand at a time. And I've no doubt the Council will roll over and let the RS throw more people out of their homes to expand their kip too.

So while we've caught up and there is room for further expansion possible, the gap is only going to grow again, especially if the transport situation cannot be sorted out.

There's no way Chelsea are bigger than Liverpool worldwide. It's Liverpool and United probably tied for the two most popular teams in the world imo, sadly. They have tens of millions of fans from all walks of life across all continents, but mostly Asia.

We would have filled a slightly bigger stadium, but having been in the Etihad, 53k is an impressive sight. It's probably about the balancing point between getting the volume of fans in and maintaining the atmosphere. Your 100% right that clubs have looked at us and thought of developing. We cant make moves like that without other clubs asking questions of themselves. Exciting times.

I always think this is a big topic for me.

I agree that we would have, but i can't help but think so many people have been on a waiting list for a ST, because they wanted to either

A) Be at last season at Goodison
B) Be at first game at Everton Stadium

I think it will be interesting to see how availability for non big matches is, once the novelty factor has worn off.

I do think we've got a naturally bigger "core" of supporters than Man City, but would i want to jeopardise that for a load of plastic supporters? I'm not sure.

Its a fair point, and like you say, that stadium will be 100% full while people are wanting to get their first game there. I actually think it might last a bit longer than that to be fair. For example, I don't have a season ticket myself, and have no chance of getting one for a while. I have to rely of getting a ticket when I can, but given the opportunity, I'd have one right away. There's thousands in the same boat, so I'd expect those extra 13.5k seats to get swallowed up pretty quick. Still, better to have a full stadium with some demand left than have a stadium with pockets of empty seats.

City have obviously been successful over recent years, and that in it's self will breed the plastic fans. At least from Everton's point of view, with the rough ride we've had for years now, any fans we have can't be referred to as glory supporters (yet).

I actually think it's not persons like yourself; I think a lot of people will have retained their season tickets for that.

Naturally, I think once people come, lots will not enjoy the experience, the Increased costs, and i think you'll get a natural level where a waiting list will be in the smaller end of the 1000s, not 20,000 like it is now.

But couldn't agree more with success and plastic fans. I took the missus to Glasgow on Friday, the train home on Saturday morning was rammed full of City fans, mainly families with young kids, who clearly support City due to the players, but at our current state, I just think well naturally plateau and in 4-5 years (following current trajectory), you'll ne able to get a ST no problem.

Probably, currently man city.
It's all about PR manipulation.
The biggest cash cow will get favourable media coverage.
Man utd, historically, have kept support ,even through the barren̈ 70s,then Beckham took it to new levels.
They won't agree, but heysel ruined that lots appeal.

Spurs had a bigger fanbase than Chelsea for 90% of their history, and more trophies.

I still come across a lot more Spurs fans in London than I do Chelsea but there is probably a generational bias to that. I think they are still the second biggest club in London in terms of local fans but worldwide (and maybe nationwide) it's no contest between the two.
I grew up just outside London (to the south). Anecdotally I have the feeling that it seemed fairly equal in terms of numbers of Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea fans. Although I remember having the feeling that there was a visible increase in Chelsea fans from 2003 onwards when Abramovic showed up

In Czech it's Arsenal or Chelsea with the RS in third. United have some following and would probably be the first club a Czech would think of if asked.

Despite their ownership and player connections I've only met one West Ham fan here, who told me it was because of Green Street.

Make of that what you will.

In Germany it's probably about 90% RS.
