The Championship

Championship is a great league and far more competitive than the Premier League .. just dont fancy playing in it much.

Going straight back up will largely depends on who we manage to hang on to if we get relegated i reckon. Got to be able to fight for it on the pitch though!

If we go down, it's going to be a painful season. We won't bounce straight back up. There are clubs like Norwich and Watford who are absolute masters of that league, as well as clubs like Forest, Blackburn etc who might not be promoted this year but have got way more experience than us of that league and what it takes. Newcastle went down but were incredibly lucky to keep 95% of their squad and manager (Rafael, for all his faults). Is that going to be the case with us? I doubt it. Half of these shysters will be off as soon as the last game is over, if we go down. They'll get moves as well, as other clubs will be circling like vultures. Although, in all honesty, I genuinely hate this bunch of low-lifes we have right now and I'd be glad to see the back of them, apart from good 'uns like Anthony Gordon and Demarai, who are at least trying.

Problem with the championship is the number of games. 46 games is a brutal number to fit in over a season. Plays havoc with training routines, impacts on player fitness. Attritional stuff. Not sure that many of our current squad would have the stomach for it.

But different clubs react in different ways. The yoyo clubs - Fulham, Norwich, etc are set up to cope. Some like Leeds just implode and never come back for years, but I don't think that would be us, as we aren't the same sort of basket case that they were when they were relegated. Some like Villa get the money poured in, a half decent manager and get back on track.

For me, Stoke's first season down looks a lot like I imagine ours might turn out if we are relegated - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018–19_Stoke_City_F.C._season - never got a foothold in their first season down despite having "the best squad in the division", too many show ponies and lazy money grabbers not bothered to put the effort in that the league requires, and now properly downsized to a perennial mid table championship club with no obvious way back.

I honestly see us spending stupid amounts of money to keep Richy and Pickford around, which is stupid because they're not prepped for that division now. If we go down we're staying down until we actually have someone capable in charge who'll rebuild us properly. God knows how long that will take. I'm resigned to it.

I dont see anyone wanting to take the likes of Keane, Gomes, Rondon & Iwobi off our hands

Good comparison that is mate!
I see they paid around £25million for Tom Ince, James McClean & Sam Clucas that summer too.

I wonder who this summers versions of those 3 will be
