The Club World Club

Fifa is set to give more than $1bn in prize money to clubs participating in the Club World Cup as the European Club Association (ECA), negotiating on behalf of clubs in Europe including Chelsea and Manchester City, closes in on a deal.

Multiple sources have confirmed to BBC Sport that the 32 clubs involved, including 12 European clubs, will split what is anticipated to be the biggest prize in club football across a seven-match format.

It is partly based on the $1bn exclusive global TV deal agreed with sports streaming service DAZN in December.

The inaugural tournament, taking place in the United States, begins on 14 June and finishes with the final in New Jersey on 13 July.

On an individual club basis, those involved will receive a participation fee for entering the group stage and performance fees based on progression to later rounds.

like City and Chelsea need to share in $1+Bn prize pot!

Multiple senior sources have explained that Fifa and the ECA are also in talks about bringing in substantial solidarity payments for none participating Clubs which is expected to be followed by similar distributions for clubs in Africa, Asia and the Americas at a later date.

or as some may allegedly call it - Bribes, hush money and sweeteners!

"The Fifa Club World Cup will not only be the pinnacle of club football, but also a vivid demonstration of solidarity that will benefit clubs at large to a scale that no other competition has ever done," said Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

Yeah right

"All revenue generated by the tournament will be distributed to the participating clubs, and via club solidarity across the world, as Fifa will not keep a single dollar.
Fifa's reserves, which are there for global development, will remain untouched.

(We still got Loadsamoney)

player burnout?? - nah, didnt think so

Zero interest personally, but then I only really watch Everton games.

Will be interesting to see the audience numbers globally and how many people would want to watch Man City vs Al Ain FC.

The annoying thing is it will probably further impact the domestic leagues and cups with more rules coming into games to support the teams participating in it. They'll continue to play their best players and it won't be long until we hear more about burnout and eventually we'll be seeing 7 subs allowed and breaks in each half etc.

Club world cup*

What happens when there is a real world cup? a Euro's? an Olympics?

Will they green light an equivalent women's club world cup and fund that?

12 European clubs, means 20 clubs from elsewhere, don't seasons elsewhere run along different time frames? Might this competition affect leagues and cup competitions in other leagues? How will they divvy up the places? How will 'legacy' clubs like man utd be parachuted in whilst Benfica or Napoli or Marseille or Atletico miss out?

How soon will legal challenges turn up against this? Is this an expansion of the naff club world cup they operate currently? Will there be a secondary competition say, for the likes of West Ham when they won Europa conference league?

Someone started knocking on the trough the pig feed fills, only not all the pigs have been invited, there'll be hell to pay yet.

I think the Idea is to play it in the years there are not other major championships like the Euros or World cup. The Olympics are held at the end of the summer, so no clash with that.
With the effects on the Euros and Olympics that covid had FIFA got scared that at sometime in the future a similar incident could effect the World cup and the flow of money to FIFA would take a hit. That`s all this competition is about, an extra revenue stream for FIFA.

If we could write with confidence that this money would be focused on the clubs from less developed football nations, that are playing in the tournament, or maybe even the whole country/region development. Maybe, just maybe even looking past football and doing some good in the real world. I think then we could all get on board.

However, that is the biggest if that has ever been mentioned. It will go to the top echelons of the game and get lost in the already large wealth of these club and/or owners. The others will get scraps, although hopefully enough scraps that they can do something good themselves.

It will be interesting to see how many of the clubs that complain about playing too many games refuse to take part, or send their under 21 teams

Or will they continue to flog their players to earn big bucks and complain about too many matches again.

Exclusively on DAZN I think

Can’t see many signing up just for this

Might have made more sense for them to go with a terrestrial broadcaster if they wanted to get as many eyeballs on the new format as possible
Terrestrial doesn't have the money to match the firms that've essentially bought boxing and ufc mma stuff. No one trusts the companies associated with butt holes that sunk itv digital.

"Following the 2023 edition, the tournament was again revamped to a quadrennial competition starting in 2025." So next time round is 2029.

I wonder if this could see cup rounds fixed with byes for participating clubs?
