It made the whole country proud....ex-Celtic footballer, Tommy Gemmell has died aged 73. A member of the famous Lisbon Lions, I can distinctly remember watching that European Cup win.

Summer, I think you need to add 'at Lords' to that sentence.John Hampshire, Yorkshire and England cricketer. First English player to score a century on his debut. When retired became an umpire for 21 years.

Aye, you're right.Summer, I think you need to add 'at Lords' to that sentence.
I think the reason so many people recalled those games was purely down to the fact there were so few live televised matches so were keenly watched...forgot they got the final in 1970 only to be beaten by Feyonord. Gemmell scored in that game too.
If I remember correctly our own Frank Hayes scored a debut hundred. Not at Lord's of course.Aye, you're right.![]()
Agreed. I think the first Everton game I ever saw live on TV was the 1984 Cup Final.I think the reason so many people recalled those games was purely down to the fact there were so few live televised matches so were keenly watched.
He did indeed, always liked him, a classy player but I think didn't play many Tests .If I remember correctly our own Frank Hayes scored a debut hundred. Not at Lord's of course.
Having put my money where my mouth is I then googled to check. He played 9 tests but didn't score more than 29 after getting that ton. What surprised me more is that he is now 70.He did indeed, always liked him, a classy player but I think didn't play many Tests .
