The Dead Thread

British comic artist Ian Gibson. Aged 77. One of the key men behind the hugely successful 2000ad comic. He worked with Alan Moore on the hugely influential "Ballad of Halo Jones" as well as stints providing art for "Judge Dredd". Also did the artwork for "Sam Slade: Robo-Hunter".

Halo Jones was a particular favourite of mine to be fair.

Greatest comic ever written imho. Was all set up for multiple books but then Alan Moore had a dispute with Fleetway over the rights. Always thought Charlize Theron would've been perfect in the role had a film ever been made.

Gibson was a fantastic artist, up there with Carlos Ezquerra for me.

Yeah, didn't Watchmen end up being the response to the dispute?

Yeah I think so. Pretty sure he hated the film version and washed his hands of it. That might also apply to all film adaptations of his work.

One of the greatest writers of all time, absolutely love his attitude too. Still lives in a humble terraced house in Northampton I believe.
Stuart Lee did a great interview with him, worth a look.

Hated it so bad, he fought and lost to have his name removed from the film. Principled man.
