Former RTÉ journalist Charlie Bird dies following illness

Former RTÉ journalist Charlie Bird has died at the age of 74 following a long battle with motor neurone disease.

Irish Oldies on here will remember his breathless updates from the Philippines covering the arrest on false charges by Akino's regime of of Fr Niall O Brien in 1084.

Just read that one of his first jobs as a presenter (up from researcher) was to cover the terrible Stardust Fire tragedy.

He spent 7 decades reliant on that piece of machinery but still managed to get a degree and become an author. Well Played!
