The EU deal

Our city wouldn't be as fair if it weren't for European funding. Bitter experience has taught me that the people in Whitehall do not care about Merseyside or its people.

According to the European Union Select Committee the EU loses £4bn of taxpayers money to fraud every single year.

Hmmm, I wonder who's pockets that lines?

And that European funding comes from your pocket.
The objective one funding is 80% allotted by the government of the country its spent in not the EU,
of the rest 16% is direct to EU projects, the other goes to in EU speak to projects outside the EU remit, or goes missing to me and you.
On a local level it works out at about £1 we get back for every £3 what we pay in, a lot of Liverpool objective one money went on training things like hairdressers and by there own admission had little affect on the area. that wasn't the EU fault in my eyes just short sight by the power to be at the time.
But that improved by the time we got the second tract of it

This thread is like a Facebook feed now.

Mods shut it down, let people who care research and come to their own opinions, right or wrong whichever I don't care but this read is a skidmark on the bills of GOT.

That old chestnut. Everyone pro-Brexit is a racist. Thought that ridiculous nonsense had already been shot down.

You do realise that my lot were being discriminated against before 99% of the UK knew what a Muslim was?

Not sure who has said that everyone who wants us to leave the EU is a racist. I would say that the main issue amongst people who want to leave is immigration though. Dress it up as anti-democratic, too expensive, whatever, but it all boils down to immigration; hence the spike in support since the horrible Turkey scaremongering. I haven't heard one person put forward any indication as to how we might cope in terms of trade. Even the Leavers are admitting there will be a dip if we leave to cover their backs if the inevitable happens.

You have all fallen for the anti immigration rhetoric, as if immigration harms this country. We should be proud of our acceptance and should seek to accept more.

Not sure what your last comment has to do with this debate, by the way.

Put that into context. Divided between the countries in the EU, it's but a drop in the ocean. We waste something like 30-40bn a year, ten times that figure, on tax avoidance and tax fraud in this country.

But that's our tax avoidance and our tax fraud so it's OK.

I haven't fallen for anything at all. The idea that it is about immigration is patent nonsense. The reasons promoted by some loons who bang on about migrants as being the ills and cause of everything are what are given media time, so anyone believing it comes down to immigration is the one duped by the subtext.

This is a long planned classic pincer movement. Vote to remain and quite swiftly you will see noticeable movement to federalism. Opt out you have foaming right wingers trying to box anyone and every johnny foreigner. My hope is that by taking such a drastic turn under an out vote we reach a point of critical mass and change starts to happen properly. And if it all possible, democratically. If not, viva la revolucion!!

My post was aimed at those on here waving the anti-immigration flag. If the leave vote comes through, it'll have been won by praying on people's unfounded fears of immigration. Like you say, it is what is being given air time.

What proper change do you think a leave vote might see?
