Swansea knocked them back when terms of agreement they wanted were revealed. All the 'investment' was payments to shareholders to buy 60% of the club and do a full takeover. But, yes, Moores has experience of demanding a new stadium for his sports franchise paid for by the taxpayer or threatening to take his franchise somewhere else which will. He's also not unfamiliar with federal corruption investigations either if that's a qualification.

My understanding was they knocked Swansea back because Swansea wanted to keep a fan representative on the board. Amongst other reasons.

His Wikipedia page suggests he has done quite a bit for charity, and that he adopted two children that weren't his. He is also no spring chicken at 71 years old.

Philanthropy and activism[edit]

Organizations that Moores has supported include the ACLU, the San Diego Zoo, San Diego State University, theSan Diego Symphony, San Diego Center for Children, the Boys and Girls Clubs, St. Vincent de Paul Villages, theNational Multiple Sclerosis Society, and The Scripps Research Institute where Moores sits on the board.

His 1991 contribution of US$51 million to the University of Houston was the largest in U.S. history to a public university. He served on the University of Houston System Board of Regents from 1991 to 1994. Among many other philanthropic efforts, John and Becky Moores donated US$21 million to establish the John and Rebecca Moores Cancer Center at University of California, San Diego and over US$20 million to San Diego State University.[8] In 1999 he was appointed Regent of the University of California by Governor Gray Davis until he resigned for unknown reasons in 2007. As UC regent, he worked to make sure Proposition 209 (passed in 1996) was implemented. In 2005 he was elected chair of the Carter Center at Emory University, succeeding Jimmy Carter. Most recently, Moores is a Member of the Board of Trustees for the Blum Center for Developing Economies at the University of California, Berkeley.[9] The Center is focused on finding solutions to address the crisis of extreme poverty and disease in the developing world.[10]

Moores is also the founder of the River Blindness Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to research and treatment of Onchocerciasis, the second most common cause of infectious blindness.[11]

Personal life[edit]
John and Becky Moores met in a high school history class in Texas and married in 1963. They have four adult children, two biological and two adopted.

In February 2008, Moores' wife Becky filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. As part of potential settlement in the divorce, it was reported that Moores is prepared to part with the family home on a golf course atPebble Beach, California.[8] The property is overlooking the Pacific and the 18th fairway of one of the world's most glorious golf courses. The divorce also prompted a major overhaul of the San Diego Padres roster and then the sale of Moores' majority ownership of the MLB team. Associates say since the filing for divorce, Moores now spends most of his time in Texas and rarely attends Padres and San Diego State games.[12][13]

Some things I think we all need to accept when it comes to potential owners - whoever buys Everton:

- Won't be a Saint;
- Will have a well documented past;
- Will have had both positive & negative portrayals of their worth as an owner;
- Won't be a Jack Walker or even a Bill Kenwright figure;
- Is HIGHLY UNLIKELY to have grown up as a fan of the club;
- Will be looking to run EFC as far more of a business than it has been up to this point;
- Will be looking to make money.

Woukd be typical everton however to be sold to a skint Yank! Although if the consortium can afford Kenwrights asking price they must have some money in the kitty.

Would be happier if it was some Saudi prince/Asian tycoon looking to buy us however.
