I despise the RS but ,though it sticks in my craw , their success is very beneficial to our city and region.Baxendales words remind me of those naive Blues in the 70s who wanted the RS to win the European Cup because 'it would be great for the City'. In reality it was the start of our decline, the start of them starting to attract more young support from within the city, and from across the country. We clawed our way back to near parity in the mid 80s but then.........
Having top level football teams is invaluable to any city, having a team win the premier club trophy associates the city with success.
Our bars, clubs and restaurants profit massively from the influx of rat- creatures every other week, which allows them to operate, expand and contribute to making our City a vibrant and desirable destination for people and businesses.
As has been noted above their CEO praised our prospective stadium for its benefits to our region.
It may be unpalatable but the economic strength of our City is far more important than football rivalries, however bitter, and any competent businessperson would be aware of this.
