The GOT Book Club

I've only read three mate, I liked them all

Redskins one,

the one with the Indian Princess (mountain of light ?)

and I can't remember the other mate sorry

read them just after reading a sh!tload of Patricik O'Bryan's Jack Aubrey novels, so they were a breath of fresh air, while "sort of" the same genre

The mountain of light is a good one mate. I'd rcommend Flashman (the first and my fav), the Great game (indian mutiny) and At the charge (charge of the light brigade). However all twelve books are brillant. I'm reading Agent Zig Zag just now (which I'd also recommend) and I swear Eddie Chapman is like a real life Flashman! (without being a coward though!).

I know what you mean about the same "sort of " type of book as I love all the Sharpe books by Bernerd Cornwell (great writer) and though they are VERY diffrent to the Flashman novels they are the simlier at the same time.

yeah, you've got it mate, sort of the life, loves and adventures of a somewhat antiquated and romanticised military hero, although Flashman has this title bestowed on him sort of by chance, but that's what makes those stories unique, chivalrous swashbucklers from a bygone age or something, I don't know.

Anyway, currently reading One Day In September, about the killing of the Israeli competitors at the 1972 Munich Olympics

interesting stuff

Sounds good mate, ill have to give that a try myself at some point. I've just finished the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, what a read! Its a mammouth of a book but its the single greatest read on the subject you'll find anywere.

Pat's Van, yes he did but it wasn't very good. Maybe I'm harsh but it just never lived up to my expectations. Its up in full on Youtube now to.

I agree the film wasn't that good. There were some rumours about a movie to be made this year but nothing seems to be happening. I think it would be a difficult job for anyone to try to faithfully turn any of the books into film as there is so much detail. I think the short story 'The Subtleties of Baccarat' would be a good film project. A good story that would allow a little more of Flashman to be seen through flashbacks, (no pun intended).

Whitebootman, I'd love to see the film but I just can't see it happeing tbh. Its far to politically incorrect for modern Britain. I think it would be better to do a tv series (lots more detail that way) like what's been done for Game of Thrones. (That's how you adapt a novel to tv show/film).

TV loves a costume drama and a good anti hero, I agree about PC but the spirit of the character could work on TV.
