The GOT Book Club

Not a big fan of biographies, as they tend to be poorly written and very samey.

This, without doubt is the best footy biography I’ve read.

It’s reads like he’s been keeping a journal of his life, since he was old enough to write. The attention to detail is incredible, as is his honesty.

It’s a fantastic book in it‘s own right and he pulls no punches, about what a bellend he’s been since turning pro.

Would make a good Christmas present.

Haha. Awesome. I'm here for it.

I love coffee table books and just got another one. Essentially, a book on design-features of the built-environment that no one notices. Super fun and easy to read. Found it through the excellent architecture/urban planning website "web Urbanist."

Looks interesting—was it put out by Roman Mars and the people who contribute to the 99% Invisible podcast?

That’s one of my favourites

Reading through Blake Crouch’s ‘Dark Matter’ at the moment.
Saw someone mention it on here a year or so back and added it to my list.

About 2/3 the way through, wasn’t sure of it at first, but it really steps up through the gears as it goes on.

Enjoying it so far!

I can highly recommend his, Wayward Pines trilogy too, if you haven`t read them.

I’ve got it in pre order - came out on 25th October, so I’m hopeful my hardback copy should be here very soon.

I think his next book is also due out in November - I’m getting that for Christmas.
I have this ordered - avoiding any reviews, want to read it with no expectations. Not expecting a masterpiece tbh but goes without saying it'll be good at the minimum.

Its been an age since I've read a Culture novel, I'm rationing the enjoyment of the few remaining ones I've not got to.

Inversions is unusual even by the standards of the series being only tangentially linked to the Culture. The seeds of the links grow as the novel progresses but this is a long way from drones, minds and orbitals, and as a result intriguing if slightly frustrating. However as the intertwined stories conclude and the fragments lock into place, you find yourself reflecting on succulent clues that you glossed over.

As elegant and intricate as ever and a great example of an author continuing his world building while challenging himself to accomplish it very differently.

RIP Iain. I hope they serve only the finest single malts in the sublime.

IQ by Joe Ide

A resident of one of LA's toughest neighborhoods uses his blistering intellect to solve the crimes the LAPD ignores.
East Long Beach. The LAPD is barely keeping up with the neighborhood's high crime rate. Murders go unsolved, lost children unrecovered. But someone from the neighborhood has taken it upon himself to help solve the cases the police can't or won't touch.
They call him IQ. He's a loner and a high school dropout, his unassuming nature disguising a relentless determination and a fierce intelligence. He charges his clients whatever they can afford, which might be a set of tires or a homemade casserole. To get by, he's forced to take on clients that can pay.
This time, it's a rap mogul whose life is in danger. As Isaiah investigates, he encounters a vengeful ex-wife, a crew of notorious cutthroats, a monstrous attack dog, and a hit man who even other hit men say is a lunatic. The deeper Isaiah digs, the more far reaching and dangerous the case becomes.

Number one in a series.

Well decent for a fiver (kindle), If you like it then you will enjoy the first 4 books. Swerve book 5
