Someone on here recommend this - Into Thin Air / Jon Krakauer.
Couldnāt put it down, outstanding.
The author recounts without blame, the Everest disaster of 1996, of which he was part of.
The film, with Josh Brolin, pretty much uses this book as a template.
Funny how something I read many years ago which at the time was a masterpiece isn't quite so these days.
It's OK, not in the same league as Discword though

I read The Stand, Stephen King, when I was 16. About to turn 46 and I've just picked it up again.
Had The Stand on my to read list for ages, havenāt got around to it yet, mostly due to it being and absolute tome of a book. Over 1000 pages isnāt it?My top three Stephen Kings, along with the Shining and Salems Lot.
The Stand very much deserves to have a lot of money thrown at it and made into a two or even three part film.

Picked up 11.22.63 recently as itās next months read in the book club Iām in.
Heard itās up there with some of his best.

Haven't seen the show, but read 11.22 last year and it was really good. More in common with his Green Mile etc type books than the horror ones tho.The Stand is a whopping book, but I found it a very easy read, as it really flows and you`re massively invested in all of the characters, both good and bad.
I haven`t read 11.22.6. yet, but I`ve had the tv series on my list for a while, as the reviews for it are very impressive.
Found a copy of this on Abebooks for Ā£2, so snaffled it up.View attachment 274965
Some one recommended this on here a while ago :
In The Distance - Hernan Diaz.
Considering this is the authors first book, itās a stunning read.
Think Cormac McCarthy, but more simply written. ( thatās not a criticism)
Set in the early days of the birth of modern America, a young, Swedish boy and his brother get separated from each other in Portsmouth docks en route to start a new life in San Francisco.
Believing that his brother has found passage back to America, using the last of his money, the boy pays for his passage across the Atlantic to try and find his brother.
The book tells the tale of the boy as he wanders across the American West, trying to get to San Francisco looking for his brother, not knowing where he is, as he slowly becomes an adult and all that he encounters.
If a book ever deserved to be made into a film, itās this.
Magnificent.
Said stack of unread books is over 20 after going through them. I need to stop buying booksFound a copy of this on Abebooks for Ā£2, so snaffled it up.
Dunno when I'm going to get around to it as I have an ungodly stack of unread books to get through
Heard quite a few singing praises for this one on here and elsewhere though!
