Forgotten Voices of the Somme - Joshua Levine.

The Battle of the Somme, before, during and after, narrated and as seen by soldiers from both sides.

No sides taken, just told as it was in an almost matter of fact way most of the time.

An outstanding read and makes you truly appreciate the bravery and selflessness of the men and both sides and the utter waste of human life that WW1 was.

The Last Nazi - The Life and Times of Joseph Mengele.

A truly harrowing read, but fascinating at the same time.

The first part deals with his early life and transformation from a scholar with Nazi leanings, to an enthusiastic participant in the Final Solution within Auschwitz and the latter part of the book deals with the ease at which Mengele and thousands of other war criminals, were able to escape and settle in South America with the blessings of their various governments.

You have to be mentally ready to read the first part of the book.
I’d like to read Hitlers life and times in South America too, how life was for him after the war in Argentina

Details the British army's response to 'shell shock' casualties before, during and after the war. A sobering read, and some horrific incidences of their response and treatment of the afflicted soldiers. Not averse to telling half faced lies either, but nothing new there.

A year in the life of Lawrence, Britain's most singular musical genius who never hit the big time.

Absolutely cracking read, funny, real, poignant, sad, haven't got to the end yet, but it's been great revisiting his catalogue. Felt in particular made some great records, but all of it is enjoyable.
