The GOT Book Club

Funniest book I ever read was John Kennedy Toole's Confederacy of Dunces. Ignatius J. Reilly is one of the greatest comedy characters ever invented. Get it read. (y)

Agree with the consensus on Catcher in the Rye. Twice read years ago. Creased me up the way Holden used to prefix everyone with the word 'old'...old Pheobe, old Ackley....

Have you read the documentary book that The Wire was actually based on, chico? I'm halfway through that at the moment and it's pretty good. There's supposed to be another coming out soon called The Corner (about a year on a dealing corner in Baltimore).

just been down the library and they have a rack of books for sale for the princely sum of 20p each, anyway there was

Danny Blanchflower - A biography of a visionary

i dont know much about the man, other than from when i was a kid he has been referred to as a footballing great. should make an interesting read, and i reckon it'll be the sort of thing that players of the ilk of that lying spitting diouf should be forced to read, to show what being a footballer is really about, as opposed to von dutch and having their motors 'wrapped' to appear chrome.

also got ..

Sports stories, for the kids bedtime
Foul Football - wicked world cup

and

talking to tweenies - getting it right with your 12 year old before it gets rocky......the mrs can read that.

I'm currently reading Oscar Wilde's 'A Picture of Dorian Gray'.

Verdict - Quite homo-erotic yet thought provoking. Decent.

i read that a couple of years ago. recommended reading.

funny, i'm teaching oscar wilde's fairy tales at the moment to some of my students.

today we read the 'fisherman and his soul'.

it's very good.

the book i'm reading now is anne frank. i missed it all the way through school and finally i picked up a copy last week. i'm told i'm the only person on the planet not to have read it. which seems a tad unlikely to be fair.

Finally got round to reading The Dice Man.

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! It says. I'd probably agree with that.

It's mental. Undoubtedly has a permanently mind altering effect on your mind; the literary equivalent of taking LSD as a 15 year old.

Ordered The Search for the Dice Man as soon as I finished it.

Last book I finished was the autobiography of Sir Bobby Robson, an absolute great of the game and a really nice and down to earth guy, I'm pleased to say I had the pleasure to meet him and a opportunity to speak.

i prefer sas based books got a few andy mcnab/chris ryan as well as a few fact based stuff the last non milatery book i read was american psyco by brad easton ellis found it quite dark and hard to read at times but got there in the end

Some great books.

I collected first editions as a hobby with the wife for a few years.
It was fun, and we'd visit car boot sales, and charity shops etc looking for first editions.
I think we have over 2000 books, so we had to stop as we were running out of space.
The book that has stuck in my mind most throughout my life has been a book by Jack London called White Fang.
I recommend any child or adult to read it.
