The GOT Book Club

Made the mistake of window shopping in Waterstones the other day and came out with

and

Read stuff about transference of memory in dna abd I found it quite plausible, looks interesting

Aye, I thought so. The reading list is growing so need to find some time to get round to them all. Less time on here would probably help like lol

Me too, a 5 year old and a 1 year old have caused a backlog, but when I find a book I like the look of I buy it in the hope I may become bedridden for a few months .... :)

The name of the wind is the best fantasy I've read for ages, including the GOT series. Just finished the second one which was also ace. I should warn you that Rothfuss does end the book quite abruptly, but you can just buy the second one and carry on from there...
Finished the name of the wind the other day - great page turner but didn't rate it as absolutely top drawer tbh. Will read the next one and see what gives. Liked his approach to magic - most authors cba to build any detailed structures or mechanisms for magic, thought he wrote some interesting stuff here.

Picking it up after the first law trilogy was a mistake, felt like the Bloody nine was at my elbow lauging at me - Say one thing for the name of the wind, say it's a book for girls. Got the Abercormbie out of my system after 100 pages or so.

Working my way through VS Naipaul's books atm. He's brilliant if a little bit racist.

Read Will Self's short stories Dr Mukhti and other tales of woe.. somethng like that anyway. The novella at the start was good. The rest was average/below average.

Just finished Gulag Archipelago. Heavy, lengthy, read but very highly recommended if you're interested in Russia during the world wars. Need something less serious now, think I'll try some of those tactical football books you lot have recommended. If there was one top recommendation on football, what would you recommend?

I can wholeheartedly recommend Viv Albertine's autobiography 'Clothes, Clothes, Clothes, Music, Music, Music, Boys, Boys, Boys'.

She was in The Slits, but I'm pretty certain anyone would enjoy this book, not just people like me who have an interest in the early punk/post-punk scene.

Julian Cope's 'One Three One' is next on my list...
