The concept & promotion of safe spaces has ruined learned debate, narrowed understanding and amplified polarisation.

Blimey...wow...

Ok, your turn.
So the bit where it says between 1983 and 2003 it ROSE 14%, and the bit where it says between 2004 and 2013 it ROSE by less than 2%. Which one of those bits shows deaths going down? Because I'm clearly not seeing what you're seeing.

Which I generally agree with. Just found this interesting comment on another debate-forum:

Your earlier post stated the hype-messaging isn't for all of us (which began our to-and-fro).

The message is intended for everyone. Just that the 'terrifying' exaggerated hype-language used in that message is putting a lot of people off...hence my point about the hyper-awareness aspect: it's just adding to this collective psyche of constant-crisis (along with covid, ukraine, energy, inflation etc).

The people...the everyone aspect...urgently need a break from constant crisis-pushing. It's damn unhealthy.

My last post in this thread, here's a reminder for everyone of the important bit, written without the hype-alarm tone...heat-stroke, sun-fever or severe burns can hit fast if the hot sun isn't respected, this is a timeless warning:
I said nothing about "hype messaging" I said responding agencies in the UK had a duty to Warn, inform and advise the public.

You're conflating two distinct things again, not sure if you're doing it deliberately or not, but warning, informing and advising about Heatwave "stay cool, stay hydrated and cover up" (which is the generic public messaging) is not the same thing as people talking about the long term effects of climate change and using a 40 degree threshold being hit as evidence of that.

The point you followed up about infrastructure...what do you think the effect on a local health economy is in the UK if a server overheats and fails is?

Or an additional 10% increase in patients through UEC pathways across that health economy?

How well prepared are UK hospitals for 38 degree + temperatures - maternity services, burns units, old buildings (around 30% of the UK hospital infrastructure is around 60 years old), medicines storage facilities, mortuary cooling, power infrastructure?

Good stuff..out of interest, would you say Spain is significantly hotter, on average than the UK? And if so, do you think they may have adapted their infrastructure and perhaps culture to limit the effect of hot weather?
Yes definitely. It's roasting here for months. I was on the beach Saturday and all the Spanish kids are up and playing, swimming in the sea at 1am. They have siesta because you can't really go outside so everything starts late. It's fiestas now too so there's just music playing all through the night until 8am. It's not unusual for the young kids to be out until 3am playing round here. Most people just take 3 weeks off in August and go mental. It's a truly wonderful place
