The impending forward crisis

I'd like to have some reassurances he has a few options is all.

I'd rather have assurances we won't be relegated...not gonna' get that either.

Hopefully they're working with Simms and DCL together, so Simms is ready either as a sub, or when DCL isn't available. We really should have bought a backup centre forward who could hold the ball up though, it could end up costing us

….the club have truly made a rod for their own back. We all know how fragile DCL is, yet Thelwell has failed to bring in an effective back-up striker for two windows. It’s incompetence, it’s gross negligence and it genuinely could send us down.

I can’t see Maupay leading the line. Forget the ‘he‘s not a lone striker’ shouts, he’s a forward and forwards have the basic back to goal technique to do a job. Maupay doesn’t have that skill set, he’s also slow and unable to run the channels or threaten with balls played behind the back four.

There’s a reluctance to play Simms. I agree he lacks quality but he has the physicality to occupy CBs and he comes alive when the ball is played beyond defenders or is in the box. Not great in the air but he gets his head on the ball because of his size. He’s also a goal threat.

in the system we play it would be Simms for me, but whoever it is it’s unlikely to be good enough. Dreadful state we are in.

To be fair to Dyche he probably didn't think it was a good idea to play Simms against the league leaders. Hopefully half an hour of Maupay will have shown him Simms couldn't be any worse.

Hopefully Dyche will have the week to assess the prospect of Simms and to realise we got took to the cleaners with Maupay !! If for whatever reason he sees Simms as a non starter then it may have to be Maupay and we're in ' Park The Bus ' land, hoping for a point !! Unfortunately we've tried this before without much success and the way to nullify that lot is to attack them in a similar fashion to the Arsenal game. Hopefully we can get 45mins out of DCL ?? I'm guessing that reality is setting in after Saturday coupled with the fragility of DCL. Hang your head in shame Kenwright and Co.
Good Times !!!!

If dyche wants to play a certain way that involves getting ball upto the striker quickly with some hold up play then out of all the options available it has to be Simms starting (if no DCL). To be fair to maupay on Saturday he did ok when he came on but to play him as a target man from the start is unlikely.
