The Infinite Multiverse Theory (or there are probably an incalculable number of parallel universes where Everton have won every Premier League title)

Do you ever think about the sheer gargantuan ridiculousness of the scale and concept of the universe?

I love thinking about it and watching YouTube videos on how we came in to being, theories on what the universe is, how old and huge it is etc. I think the most mind blowing theory is that there are an infinite layer of infinite universes where every possible eventuality happens.

I've been dabbling a little in pantheism recently after being introduced to it by one of my neo-pagan tutors.

The scale of the universe is difficult to comprehend and its truly impossible to know for definite what it/we all are.

I was happy with the universe until I watched Men In Black and they showed us as a tiny planet on 'Orion the cats' belt. Then I started pondering the concept of size and quite frankly I'd have a better chance trying to convince my missus I'm packing 9 inches than even attempt to articulate my perception on the world.

There are still some (sub) humans who think that the earth is flat, regardless of what science tells them.
Also, if the universe isn't infinite, and you had the means to travel a across it, then what's at the end? Is there a wall like in The Truman Show? What is outside of the universe?

I'm going for a lie down now.

Yes, sadly they still walk amongst us. You can’t argue with stupidity though unfortunately.

That’s a fair question, and the best way to try to answer it is to use the 3 dimensional earth as an analogy again. If you were to travel in a great circle straight line across what you perceived to be a flat 2d surface of the earth, you would eventually end up back where you started from after about 40,000km. There is no “end” of the earth, because of its curved spherical 3 dimensional geometry.

Now apply that principle to what we perceive to be a 3 dimensional universe. Travel in a straight line through a 4 dimensional spacetime that has a curved geometry, you will eventually arrive at the same point in space that you started from. There is no “end” of a finite universe any more than an infinite one.

Outside of the universe is a tough one. Carl Sagan said that The universe is all there ever was, all there is, and all there ever will be - so that rules out anything else being up for existence according to him.

You are in another universe.
