The Catt should have given Labby the Captaincy back - the dressing room was lost - Keith Newton - quote glad to see the back of him ....He was no longer intimidated by the Catt, Joey. Anyone who didn't live in fear of the Catt had to go.

My hero and greatest Everton player, I cried when he joined Arsenal. Met his dad at Chester FC supporters club 1976, he chatted to us for a couple of hours really interesting man.Apologies if it has been posted elsewhere, but today marks 17 years since Bally died. RIP
My first footballing hero and still the best player I have ever seen in an Everton shirt.
I am sure he would have loved yesterdays result.

Funnily enough, I did have to give an assembly the day the news came through that he had died. I ditched what I had prepared and spoke about Bally instead. A few of the older staff knew what a player he had been.Did you have to break the news to the pupils as headmaster mate?I guess being in your mid forties back then it was easier for you to deal with than the Evertonian scholars
I remember it well mate, think it was just a year after we lost Labby tooFunnily enough, I did have to give an assembly the day the news came through that he had died. I ditched what I had prepared and spoke about Bally instead. A few of the older staff knew what a player he had been.
If you watch City KDB that's the only midfielder that comes close to Bally- 18 goals for us from midfield plus created loads of assist on pitches like mud baths plus no protection from referees back then - the best ever midfielder to don a blue shirt for us ina pure footballing team - he was magical & he was a thorn in the team over the park - we could not afford him today ...Never saw him play but I have never heard my dad (RIP) talk about any other human being with as much enthusiasm as Alan Ball. He said he absolutely terrified the Kopites which is good enough for me. The only modern equivalents I can think of who did that are Ferguson and Kanchelskis (honourable mentions to James and Cahill). What a player Andrei was for that season.
Imagine that now - Everton signing a young player who, just weeks earlier, had been the man of the match in a world cup final. If you watch City KDB that's the only midfielder that comes close to Bally- 18 goals for us from midfield plus created loads of assist on pitches like mud baths plus no protection from referees back then - the best ever midfielder to don a blue shirt for us ina pure footballing team - he was magical & he was a thorn in the team over the park - we could not afford him today ...
No outskirts of Bolton Farnworth - Bolton rejected him as a youth player told his father - he only good enough to be a horse jockey lol - I bet they regretted letting him goRandomly passed by Alan Ball’s old house yesterday whilst on a bus journey through Bolton. I always assumed he was of Blackpool origin.
