Mogsy's Movie Madness
Hitchcock time!
Did you know, that the film Vertigo directed by the great Hitchcock himself is almost a direct mirror of Hitchcock's personality and inner mind? From the control of women, to directly some of the conversations he had with his cast, specifically Kim Novak.
Themes often found in Hitchcock's work include;
A MacGuffin - A filmic technique often used to throw the audience off, for example, killing off a main character.
Voyerism - The art of watching someone while they do not know. In other terms, perving or spying on someone.
Strong mother figure - This stems from Hitchcock's own fear of his mother, who would make him stand at the foot of her bed for hours on end should he misbehave.
Police figures often shown as bad guys - This also stems from Hitchcock's fear of the police after his father sent him to the police station with a note telling them to lock him in a cell for 10 minutes to teach him not to behave. In later life he refused to drive most place due to a fear of a speeding ticket due to this fear.
Vertigo was named the greatest film of all time towards the end of last year. I would recommend anyone to watch this film and look into it, i did in film studies and love it now.
