Degs, in reference our construction conversation a couple of weeks ago, I've learnt first hand over the last two weeks that architects are utterly mental.

Surprised it took you that long BLF. Have to say though that with the advent of Finite Element Design there's a lot of design Engineers who are heading in the same direction. Just because the software say's it can work doesn't mean we can build it you complete and utter head case!

I've not worked with any before to be honest, but I've just finished a project in which I was in charge of QS, Surveyors, Real Estate Managers and Architect Technologists. The Architects came up with a good design to be fair to them, it just took them ages and left me with 1 day to programme the bloody thing!

They wanted to build an underground car park under an 18th century warehouse FFS. It didn't even have a proper basement either! The QS costed it and that was quickly nipped in the bud! I was honestly shocked at how little they knew about construction.

They're certifiable, try landscape architects though, they take madness to a whole new level.

An underground car park under an 18th century warehouse is doable, but effing majorly expensive, they just need design Engineers with their fancy FEA software and 12D, easy peasy LOL.

It was the fact that we were building a 80m x 40m new complex right next to it and it didn't occur to them that putting it under that would be far, far cheaper. Nutters.
