The new 50% tax rate

Bruce Wayne

Player Valuation: £100m
How will this effect us do you think? I'm just thinking how many contracts are setup to pay players a set amount after tax rather than before tax, thus meaning we'll have to pay an extra whack to the treasury as a result of this increase.

don't think so, not if they are resident in this country, suppose we could move finch farm to the isle of man and they could all live there, the little island could be the new monte carlo for footballers.

they would then only be in the country for the amount of days to be classed as non-domiciles

50% tax. That is just so wrong.

You're not wrong. It comes in for earnings over £150,000 so not 'huge' earnings either.

Anyway, back to the topic, it seems from this Telegraph article that most PL wages are paid gross of tax rather than net of tax as is common in Europe.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kaka pip Premier League stars in football wages list - Telegraph

Interestingly though, just to use some figures from the above article. If you take John Terry's £7m annual salary, this year he'd have taken home around £4.1m. Next year he'll take home more like £3.5m. You know what players are like. They won't want to be out of tune by that much (roughly £12k a week) so will clubs have to increase wages to compensate?

<tears here>

I'd imagine most small businesses would hit that target, not to mention most who are successful who work in the city.

50% is eyewateringly high.

you are so wrong, most small businesses are on their arse.

£150,000 ffs divide by 10 and then take some off, you'll be a lot closer than what you imagine.

if you earn £150,000 you can afford the bills easily, whereas most small businesses are crippled by bills.

absolutely no concept of reality.

if you had been earning that you would've never left the place.

What place would I have left?

Most successful small business would easily turn that over.

3k a week, you would be surprised how many folk earn that sort of cash.

and you would obviously be suprised to hear that a great many don't earn anywhere near that, in a month.

you also aren't taxed on turnover, to make a profit of 3 grand your turnover isn't only going to be 3,200.

Of course most people don't earn it, but that is not the point of the thread.

If you are earning 2,885 notes a week and then have half of it taken away through tax is nonsense.

Yes, you are right about the turnover. I meant pre tax profit.

It's not a huge amount if you are self employed in a successful private business.
