The new 50% tax rate

Look guys, get off the personal slant on this. Some people make more than others, I am sorry, but that is a fact of life.

The 50% tax is criminal. Where is the incentive for someone to grow professionally and seek a job with more responsibility and compensation, only to have it taken away from taxation? What are the tax rates on people earning 75-150k these days?

It's obviously going to hit us big time.

Evertons priority will be to secure current players this summer, rather than add.

It's going to be difficult, I'd be actively looking for a move abroad if I was a Prem football player. Just like I would be if I was a high earner. 50% is outrageous, but thats this country for you, the UK like driving away the prosperous.

All this 50% tax is going to do is drive people overseas. Premier footballers, businessmen, you name it. No one in their right mind would live in a country that would take half of their hard earnt.

It's gone up from 40% (on anything over £37,000). Hardly enough to send Senor Fancy Dan scuttling back over the Channel to half the wages on offer in the other big leagues.

There's a global recession going on. Let the greedy [Poor language removed] carry out their threat.

Of the top 10 earners now, just 2 are from the Premier League (Tevez 7th and Lampard 9th).

In 2008 the Premier League had 7 of the top 10.

As long as it's not any of our players.

Not sure many other countries are charging 50% tax in this global recession.

Well, I'm guessing that there's no other league in the world that rewards mediocrity like this country's top (Premier League) clubs do.

To talk of an exodus it'd have to be established how much across the board in Europe player wages stack up now and before the hike from 40% to 50%.

just a thing i thought about this tax rate and so called "small" businesses that are making a profit of 150k, they would therefore be vat registered and limited, the company directors would then pay themselves the profits as dividends and in pay less tax than the bloke who earns 15k.

still laughing about that 150k here, laughing out of sheer amazement tbh.

Isnt the Spanish economy in Rag order, surely they will have to introduce something similar quite shortly.

I think you also have to remember that the pound is on average (although significantly not as much as it used to be) stronger then the majority of currenices that players orignate from - like the Euro, Dollar etc - there is marginal premium on being paid in sterling for a lot of players not as much as previouly but still.
