The part of the defence (or should I say 'defense') that is more likely to be involved in trying to intercept passes. Made up of cornerbacks and safeties.whats does the term/word secondary mean please

No haha. Maybe at one point that is how the the term secondary was invented but not now.thanks mush..
still learning, even after a few years of watching it now..
I take it the players trying to 'sack' the QB are like primary defense ??
Cheers mate, all very helpful. No haha. Maybe at one point that is how the the term secondary was invented but not now.
The three basic parts of the defense are the defensive line, who are the big guys that primarily try to get to the QB, the linebackers, who either rush the QB or try to stop the running backs and tight ends and the secondary which primarily plays pass coverage and cover the wide receivers.
They're part of the secondary. They tend to play on the outside across from wide receivers and cover them either man to man or as part of a zone. Those concepts aren't far away from man to man and zonal set piece marking.Cheers mate, all very helpful.
What does a 'corner' do?
Well I booked my Super Bowl tickets for my Cowboys!

Here is a link to Charlie Weiss' Pats playbook. I remember reading this years ago and although it's a little thick, still fascinating. @Connor have you seen this?
