The NFL Thread, 2019

I think you’re probably spot on.

Bills for me are the team to beat.

I think the Dolphins and the Jets are probably running the same course, with Miami ahead due to the picks and aggressiveness in Free Agency.

Patriots can anyone really predict? I’d love a run of sub .500 seasons for them, as they’re truly the Kopites of NFL.

I think Adam Gase is marmite, but he’s got a good relationship with the GM, Joe Douglas. I think he went in to Miami, and was naive in his approach, there was too many egos and too much of a Rot for a power mad Gase to change, rightfully fired.

I feel personally like Gase is a Glorified OC, Gregg Williams is an absolute miracle worker, the guy dragged a load of JAGs to decent stats last year, was a miracle he didn’t get snapped up as a HC. I have no concerns about the Defence, the Solid O Line will keep us in check.

Jets chances of making the Playoffs probably depend on the quality of the AFC east but I’d still say very low.
They play in Kansas and have three trips to the West coast ( LA x 2 and Seattle) and have hike against Niners.

Schedule gone against us this year and next year will probably be a good gauge on where the Jets are at.

Bills
Patriots
Miami
NY Jets

is my prediction.

Gregg Williams could be a great DC, was a great DC. His temperament is way too hit or miss with this generation of players, and the bountygate stuff follows him wherever he goes. I agree Gase is a good OC, and I think you're right, he gets along with everyone in NY because didn't he already get one GM fired? He came in seeming like he (perhaps correctly, but still you've gotta work with him) hating the Bell contract.

yeah Bounty gate killed Gregg.

We’ve not made a lot of changes to the Defence, Added Ashytn who’ll fill in but the nearly the same. I believe they all (inc Adams) believe in his methods.
The team has been ran terribly for about 10 years, Rex glory went to his head, Idzik believed the hype.

Quinton Coples, Darron Lee, Dee Milliner, Calvin Prior have been first round picks and awful too. It wasn’t Gase fault Mike MacCagnan was a joke, consistently chose“best available” on the draft ignoring what we needed.

Consistently went out to “win” free agency.
youll see a slow Jets revival now. Won’t be quick, but it’ll get there.

What do you think of Gase? I remember when the jets drafted Stephen Hill, I wanted the Bills to take him. He was big, fast, and I was completely wrong. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Adams, I like him as a competitor but not sure if he'll be on the Jets long term. I also don't think he's as good as some make him out to be. He's a great tackler, great in the box, but I'm not sure if that's what you want your safety to be in 2020.

I think if you speak to a Jets fan we all think Adams is a great player, but right now, he’a hyping himself.
He’s probably one of the top safety players in the league, but how many games a year do you see the Safety winning games? Rarely. He wants $15m a year if you believe some some sources and it’s mental.

i think that’s why they’ve brought in Ashton Davis. But Adams is a Texas native, he begged the Dallas to sign him. I don’t want that.

As for Gase, it was always a 2year eval for me. It was widely reported that he hated the Q Williams pick last year and he went to MacCagnan and told him straight. Hes gone now. He’s been brought in to push Darnold to the next level and this will be the big test, the O line is ready so let’s see how Darnold does, if we end up in the top 5 on the draft, Gase 100% goes and I think serious questions begin to be asked for Darnold.

Free hit for the Pats next season, either they're good and Stid the Kid is the answer, or they're bad and they end up with Lawrence or Justin Fields.

You can hope that they're bad but let's be honest, the BB reboot has come at a fortuitous time

Plus, imagine the AFC East thinking the king is dead only for Bill B to bounce back with another dynasty. Oh boy, you'd just give up.
Sort of. I can’t see the pats ending up with a top 5 pick regardless of who they have playing qb, and with the number of teams that are going to be looking for a quarterback, Lawrence and Fields will likely be long gone before they get to pick. Honestly wouldn’t surprise me if bill finds a way to get them to 9-7 or 10-6 this year. They’ll still have a strong defense.

These clowns trying to reopen the states now are going to cost us the NFL season and I'm going to be livid.

While I disagree with the states reopening I don't think they're the reason that NFL season might not happen.

A lot of reports warn of a second wave in the fall, whether they are hyperbolic or not, I don't know. I don't think any of us can. We've never experienced this, before a vaccination can be developed I don't know if anyone can say anything is certain regarding sports.

I think the real football is more likely to return behind closed doors because that sport is somewhat experienced with it. Americans scoff at it.

However, I have seen reported that the NFL doesn't have clauses in the CBA that protect against cancelling of games unlike the MLB and NBA. Additionally, the TV revenues are so large they dwarf the gate. So, if anything would force the NFL's hand, I believe it would be that and cause for games behind close doors. The only thing I fear is that the sport is so communal in the US, and teams with big tailgating cultures like KC, Buffalo, I wonder if big gatherings on private lots would throw a wrench in everything. It'll be interesting to see how it carries out, I wouldn't be surprised one way or the other.

If people can't eat in restaurants or they're talking about requiring flights to fly at a reduced capacity I'm not sure how packing people into a stadium goes.
