The NFL Thread, 2019

Oh, I see TheAthleticUK has written an NFL-PL comparison, a few bits

Everton
Everton and the Chicago Bears should be upwardly mobile this year given the level of talent they’ve managed to stack up.

And yet doubts that feel hard to shift remain over these teams.

In Chicago and in Liverpool, you will find two demanding fan bases of genuine blue-collar support, but there is always a more glamorous rival just up the road who is more likely to win it all.

That seems to be the case again this year for each club.

Leicester City
To find a team comparable to Leicester, you must find a team that has recently both been in the doldrums and won the Super Bowl for the first time in a tale of almost unrivalled legend.

Which could only be the New Orleans Saints, whose Lombardi Trophy a few years after Hurricane Katrina remains one of the most incredible stories in NFL history.

3 games in a row, bonehead decisions by the zebras against the Saints

Only cost us 1 win, though, and we've got other issues to address first
It definitely killed whatever momentum there might have been. Having said that, I have absolutely no confidence in Bridgewater and I’m not sure they pull that game out with Brees injured even without that call.

The thing the refs need to start doing is let the plays play out and review it after. Unless it is an absolutely clear as day call, let it run.

As for the NFC title fiasco last season... you don’t call off your other official that late in the game. You review the call. He threw the flag. If they had even looked at it in the replay booth, there is no way on Earth the correct call isn’t made.

NFL officiating is trying to give the NBA a run for its money.

Did it really kill the momentum.

It was still early in the game and Bridgewater was already in the game. Given you say you have no confidence in Bridgewater you think he would have carried on that momentum?

It would have been the same result regardless.

Which brings me to my orginal point a couple of pages ago. If they held contempt for the refs because of it, it shows they are weak mentally as they should have been able to get over it and get on with it. Over half the game was left.

What killed the Saints was Bridgewater not being Brees and not getting rhythm. Also their defense was not the best the entire game.

They need to get over it and play ball.

Confidence is important. Who knows what would have have happened if they scored, but probably the result is correct.
