The Now-Irrelevant 2024/25 Relegation Battle (Without Everton!)

Ipswich picked up ONE point since Dyche was sacked. Just checked back and the league game before that was them at Fulham. Were 2-1 up and conceded 90th minute penalty, would've got out of relegation zone and above this club if they'd held on that day (they'd also just beaten Chelsea so were starting to get momentum).

Now they're considerably worse than Luton. As I suspected at the time Ben Godfrey being their "star" defensive January signing was never going to be close to being good enough.

Promoted three won't be as bad as this next season. At least this time Burnley look like they can actually defend again so they will probably grind out more low scoring draws and 1-0s next season although their attack dosen't look up to much.

This is our final position now, 16th. Terrible obviously, but we'll all take it after what we went through for half of this season.

Yeah averted disaster but now the bounce from Moyes coming in is tailing off unsurprisingly. This squad was never going to keep scoring 2 or 3 regularly though, that was fairly obvious especially after Ndiaye's injury.

The danger would've been hanging onto Dyche when he was scrambling draws every other game and a result like today only getting the side up to 24 points as opposed to 34.

So in that scenario below Wolves and still in danger of being overtaken by a late surge.

To be 17 points clear of 18th is ridiculous given Moyes has only been in the job for two months. The Villa home loss was 15th January. 17 points from 9 since which is a great run at any stage of a season.

Pretty much.

Accepting 16th at the start of the season would have been an unforgiveable target.

Accepting 16th at the end of the season now is almost a relief.

We get the chance (again) to do things right in the summer, finally get a hold of our finances and work toward some sort of success on the pitch, in our beautiful stadium.

I have to believe that the future is better than these past few seasons, simply because it can't be much worse than we've endured.. New owners, new stadium, new purpose....and here's to not having to create another relegation thread again.
