The Oldies Thread

Yep shocking isn't it. I was thinking the other day when my daughter was listening to some nineties music on you tube, if I went back in time and started playing music 20 odd years before I was born I'd be listening to Elvis and Little Richard.

Still not too bad I suppose, a few posters on here would be listening to Beethoven.. :p
Bing Crosby actually. In his pre-punk days.

Christmas at Blacklers.

I used to love being taken to Blacklers as a kid..........
When I was a lad, Blacklers was in a number of small shops scattered around the city centre because the main store had been bombed and a new store not yet built. Now I come to think about it, there were a large number of bomb-sites in the area.

We went to the new Lewis's six story shop when it opened and enjoyed the first experience of escalators and the self-service cafe. My mother was not too impressed and we went to the table service on the fifth floor the next time we ate there.

Some fantastic memories of this place, boxing, wrestling, and rock concerts. Drinking in the 'St Paul's around the corner.
For time my Nan took me every Friday night to the wrestling. Saw all the Names; Pallo, Nagasaki, Honey Boy Simba, McManus and my own Favourite Les Kellett.
Yeah most of it was staged, but not always. I saw Mick McManus and Les Kellett going at it hammer and tongs, with the Reff stopping the fight...and the potential riot at McManus's dirty - real dirty tactics, because Kellett ending up having to retire with a broken arm.

Saw the Floyd bomb so badly that they just stop playing and walked off halfway into song 2.

And those 2 guys who used to carry the up coming fight card on the big board around Goodison just before the KO
