The Oldies Thread

View attachment 265252

…..difficult task naming that lot. Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner in the middle, presume that’s Ken Barlow front right and Minnie Caldwell back right.

“I’ll have a rum” Albert Tatlock 2nd left back row.

….bit of cheating, but hey ho.

The young lady sitting in front of Elsie Tanner is her daughter Linda (played by Anne Cunningham who is still alive, aged 87). Ida & Frank Barlow (Ken’s parents) are next to Minnie Caldwell on the back row. David Barlow (played by Alan Rothwell) is in the centre of the back row next to Jack Walker.

Elsie Lappin was the original corner shop owner and is attributed as saying the very first lines in the show, maybe behind Ken Barlow on the pic. Sitting next to Ken is his university girlfriend, Susan Cunningham. Martha Longhurst. Vera Lomax, )I guess that’s her on the right of the middle row. Christine Appleby on Ena’s left.

Harry Hewitt, extreme left with pipe. Esther Hayes and Lucy Hewitt are originals. May Hardman, maybe over Ken’s left shoulder. Leonard Swindley played by Arthur Lowe and Tony Booth were originals but I can’t see either on the pic. Concepta Riley is a familiar name, the original Rovers barmaid. The big bloke on the back row is Harry Bailey played by Ray Mort.
