The Oldies Thread

When actually paying... 10 Regal Kings.. a box of matches.. and a packet of chewy's to hide the smell from yer ma.. all for a pound.. really.. a pound..
Even buying a 'loosie' from the local Pakistan owned shop ! ( political correct that.. )

How much were your loosies?

Tuppence at the corner shop when I was eleven and no questions asked.

I've just realised that I'm answering posts from 2012. Doesn't matter, I don't suppose.

I've just remembered that I've got an Everton v Liverpool ticket stub that cost 70p.

you never hear people say... see one, play one ( any more )

what other sayings don't you hear any more???

For that matter nobody seems to play cards in their breaks. ( in fact a lot of people don't take their breaks in the lunch room at all )

Card games:

3 card brag; penny lookin, penny blind, you can't see a blindman.

crib; one for his nob, pegged back.

nap; with it,( the turned up face card ) without it, nap with it, nap without it. ( usually a ploy to stop a previous bidder with a possible decent hand ) ensuring a table full of sarcastic miaows aka 'kitty saving' usually by the last bidder who may also think he has 'invested' ( eg bet and lost ) a bigger percentage that the other participants and it must be said who usually gets snotted on the first card he plays.

I have on occasion done this and won coming back on a bare 8 of none trumps... a little bit of rainman card counting / intuition / head-ology... he can't be coming back on a no trump 8, nah

Tuppence ha'penny; see one play one indeed, unless some one has a third, or heaven forfend a 4th to scoop the pool.

and the ever popular 'curse of scotland' the nine of diamonds.
