But surely you are asking for a vinculum, which these days is represented by parentheses, to replace superfluous brackets, just saying…but agree not required

I kid you not - teaching was full of "consultants" who did this kind of demeaning childlike rubbish, at vast expense, during "training days."

In approx 150 training days in my career I actually learned 1 useful thing I didn't already know ... how to use a fire extinguisher. (Actually came in useful when the lab next door to mine caught fire!)

Imagine the fun... "such and such has the most snakelike hips on the entire disco circuit", "makes the best rushed out of the door before her husband is home coffee going" etc. The sabotage, the sheer bloodymindedness.
