I'm warming to the idea a bit but it's still very uninspiring from what I thought would happen with the new owners.
I'm not trying to pick on you at all here, but the bold is a very good summation of what seems to be the overriding sentiment in here yesterday and today.

I just can't for the life of me understand it. Did people really think they were going to be able to pull a world class manager out of a hat in the middle of January in a relegation battle?

I'm not looking to be inspired right now. I'm looking to still be in the Premier League in June. Then I'll be looking to be inspired. And nothing they've done to this point precludes that at all. Even if they hire Moyes. Even if they give him an 18-month contract or whatever. They can still pay him off and start over with everything in the summer like I'm sure they had originally planned.

I don't understand why everyone seems to think that whatever manager they hire right now is a nailed-on 100% indicator of their plans and ambitions going forward. Why can't it just be trying to put out a fire?

If Moyes can do with us what he did with West Ham (spend two years establishing the team far away from relegation concerns, into European conversation, win a trophy, then leave at the end of the contract so the club can look - hopefully successfully - to transition to a more expansive exciting style of football) then sure, let's do it.
