The small world of Eddie Howe

I know I have an idea, last time we went for a Preston manager didn't work, then wigan same result, then Southampton you know the story, Watford, know let's try the mighty Bournemouth, I can see a pattern here, Oh i forgot gravey tits

No thanks.

Won nothing.
Average Joe of a manager.
Would never be hired by one of the top six.
Uninspired choice.

We have won one trophy in 30 years, are in the bottom half, even with mosh we are not a top six richest sides in the country. We do not have the same pulling power of a top six side but we do have potential. Our main hope is signing a Mansger on the up, and usually they have not won trophies yet.

I don't think he would be an outrageous choice at all.

But during an inevitable bad spell, I think his limited experience (in terms of clubs managed) and the fact he would be seen as another convenient appointment would turn against him quickly.

We can never really know whether whomever gets the job is the best of the available people following an exhaustive search or just the bloke we're familiar with from another PL club.

But recent evidence all points to Moshiri just taking a punt on the guy he likes and so there was no process.

I'd like the next manager to have been around the block a few times in terms of number of clubs managed and some degree of achievement and/or progression at most of those clubs, just to allow for any early struggles or a single club where things didn't work out. You look at trends like anything else. Just to suggest a good record at different clubs in comparatively good leagues rather than another Silva type. But not so long in the tooth to have turned into a journeyman looking for a pension top-up.

Howe does not fit in this bracket.

I don't think we can afford another attempt at pin the tail on the donkey.

It would be dangerous hiring potential in our situation.

I'd rather not in an ideal world, but I still Benitez ticks more boxes than all the other names linked.

Eddie Howe is one of them, he might make the step up and be really good or he might be absolutely terrible and pretty much end any idea of potential around him as a manager. It’s whether you want to take the risk really, I’d like to see him move somewhere else before going for him but we are the stature of club (not very big) that he’s realistically going to move to next. I probably wouldn’t take the risk personally but I could understand us going for him.
