The Sunday Sermon ; Mick Lyons .

*** Disclaimer *** ;

Given that this week's Sermon is not up to it's usual standard , I feel perhaps I should come to my own defence , a tad .

On Thurs' , I went back to the hossy . Thus , I didn't sleep much Weds . Nor Thurs , nor Friday , tbh , an' I was stil awake at 5am this morning .
Moreover , I generally do these , where possible , largely from memory - THEN check any facts / dates etc , from there . I obviously did not concentrate to my usual standard , and with no reflection upon Mick Lyons , mind , who deserved a Sermon as good as any .

Just me fukn up , in truth .

Anyway , there it is . Hopefully , I shall be back to form next time .

But then again ,....

She was a Leg' , Our Margaret . As was Big Mick .

Another good read there mate - although Mr Lyons was a bit before my time my uncle used to worship the guy and coincidentally last week I received the 'Best of the Big Match Everton' DVD from my Lovefilm subscription and it had a fair few games with Mr Lyons playing - the QPR rout and Imre Varadi cup win you mentioned..... I would recommend it to any blue - even if its just to put faces to some of the lesser known 70's club servants we read about on here from time to time.... John Mclaughlin although was a face/hairstyle I could have lived without tho....

I was realy lucky to live not far from Mick Lyons and my friend played for a kids team that he was involved in coaching - on match days my mate and I used to wait behind the barriers in the players car park at the Park end. As Mick got out of his car we would shout him and he would come over - tell us to jump over the barrier and then calmly walk us up and through the entrance to the ground, tell the coppers to open the gate into the paddock and send us in for free ! Top Bloke !!

Ah my all time Everton fav,i adored this fella,his sign of the cross then he sprinted towards the Gladys street still gives me goose bumps.Hes not every ones cup of tea but to me hes what Everton are about,so much my cat is called jinx.Funny that i would go mad if someone called him a jinx My grammer is not as good as yours bally,but you summed him up perfect.Remember dropping a trip at his testimonial.For all the kids outthere dont do it,wasnt a nice experience.Well done lid as you lot say,LYONS FOR ENGLAND.

Lucky lid .

I lived by Mouser , whom, as you can see , was a WHOLE different sort of neighbour .

Did I ever tell you he got me Suspended from School , pre-O, Levels ???

Me , the A Student ???

I'll keep that one for Xmas I think,....

Great read as always. Agree with every word. Just have to say though that having watched "others" in his position for ten years before him, I just couldn't get excited about the bloke. Wrong, and I should be whipped. But it was the way it was.
