Here is an observation from overseas (Been long time since i posted here, those who post on NSNO and BK know me by the name "Lebanese_Toffee")
5 years ago whenever i told someone i support Everton, i used to have weird reactions, like "who" "why" and "wtf"
Today everyone around me (those who follow football) know very much about Everton and "respect" and "like" Everton, we are even gaining supporters.
This year's champion (Chelsea, United or even Arsenal) will be the most "unconvincing" champion, the gap between the "Top 4" and the rest is nowhere as it was in the last few years, today we have a "Top 8" and next season the top 8 will be exactly as it is this year (different positions).
Everton in the football world (media, fans, players, managers, ect..) is considered as established top 8 team, established European team (Europa League).
Missing on Europe for one season will not change that, everybody knows and they all are saying that Everton without the freak injury situation at the start of the season were going to be up-there with City and Spurs challenging for fourth.
We have came long way, in the previous years i used to see Everton playing "top" teams, defending for 90 minutes, working their socks off, top goalkeeping, and a lucky counter attack goal, this year we outplayed United, Chelsea and Arsenal away from home and made Man City look like boys team on 2 occasions. For the very few times in my life i hears AF saying "we were well beaten", he always find excuses or blames the ref.
We finished 4th by winning most of our games 1-0, we qualified for the Champions League but we were fairly beaten in the first round simply because we didnt deserve to be there and we were no where good enough to be there, but if we finished 4th this season, we were going to be very much up for it next year.
Evertonians have to see what others are seeing, we serious lack when it comes to the "belief" and "expectations".
Next season will be a make or break season for us, everything is set for us to challenge, the squad has 8 or 9 positions covered and Moyes should be able to fix the remaining 2-3 positions, even if he had no money to buy, we have players who we can sell and generate money, players who are no longer needed.
We must raise our expectations, we must pressure Moyes and the players to deliver, there won't be injury excuses (hopefully) next season and we will have the advantage of not playing midweek games while the rest of the Top 8 will have European mid-week games.
Our current form, we only lost 2 games in the last 19 games, that's half the season, which means 4 defeats in 38 (full season), usually the champions lose 6 games per season. We even lost one game less than Liverpool this season.
I've been saying this for some time now, this summer will be vital, we are in a much better position compared to the previous 7 summers under Moyes, he knows very well our weak areas (RB and RM + Striker) that's the only areas we need to strengthen, Coleman might be an answer to our RB problem, if Moyes thinks he is not good enough, than he should consider someone else (other than Hibbert and Neville), if Pineaar wants to go, he should sell him early in the summer and use the money to buy a replacement, he should not leave the situation hanged in the air till late August (like Lescott), basically, Moyes will have an easy summer compared to previous years where he had to deal with lot of positions, now it's down to 2-3 positions and maybe even less (if he thinks Coleman is the answer to the RB position and Saha + Yak are good enough for the whole next season) that leaves him with the RM and maybe a cover or 2 in the midfield.
I trust Moyes and i know he is very much looking forward for next season, all i want is our fans to realize that we have got a very good squad and manager and start pressuring them to deliver, blaming everything on the board and giving free get out of jail tickets to Moyes and the players will not help them.
This season was a failure, but we should learn our lessons (Lescott saga and the late transfers) and use this season's failure as advantage (lack of mid-week football compared to the other top 8 playing more games).
One last thing, and I will repeat myself, not qualifying for Europe is not the end of the world, in the football world, Everton is now regarded as an established Top 8 team, everybody (fans of the rest of the top 8) fear us and take us seriously. Players across Europe and the World see us as a Top team and missing out on Europe this season won't change that, we built a good reputation in the last 4-5 years and that won't be changed overnight.
