Here is an observation from overseas (Been long time since i posted here, those who post on NSNO and BK know me by the name "Lebanese_Toffee")

5 years ago whenever i told someone i support Everton, i used to have weird reactions, like "who" "why" and "wtf"

Today everyone around me (those who follow football) know very much about Everton and "respect" and "like" Everton, we are even gaining supporters.

This year's champion (Chelsea, United or even Arsenal) will be the most "unconvincing" champion, the gap between the "Top 4" and the rest is nowhere as it was in the last few years, today we have a "Top 8" and next season the top 8 will be exactly as it is this year (different positions).

Everton in the football world (media, fans, players, managers, ect..) is considered as established top 8 team, established European team (Europa League).

Missing on Europe for one season will not change that, everybody knows and they all are saying that Everton without the freak injury situation at the start of the season were going to be up-there with City and Spurs challenging for fourth.

We have came long way, in the previous years i used to see Everton playing "top" teams, defending for 90 minutes, working their socks off, top goalkeeping, and a lucky counter attack goal, this year we outplayed United, Chelsea and Arsenal away from home and made Man City look like boys team on 2 occasions. For the very few times in my life i hears AF saying "we were well beaten", he always find excuses or blames the ref.

We finished 4th by winning most of our games 1-0, we qualified for the Champions League but we were fairly beaten in the first round simply because we didnt deserve to be there and we were no where good enough to be there, but if we finished 4th this season, we were going to be very much up for it next year.

Evertonians have to see what others are seeing, we serious lack when it comes to the "belief" and "expectations".

Next season will be a make or break season for us, everything is set for us to challenge, the squad has 8 or 9 positions covered and Moyes should be able to fix the remaining 2-3 positions, even if he had no money to buy, we have players who we can sell and generate money, players who are no longer needed.

We must raise our expectations, we must pressure Moyes and the players to deliver, there won't be injury excuses (hopefully) next season and we will have the advantage of not playing midweek games while the rest of the Top 8 will have European mid-week games.

Our current form, we only lost 2 games in the last 19 games, that's half the season, which means 4 defeats in 38 (full season), usually the champions lose 6 games per season. We even lost one game less than Liverpool this season.

I've been saying this for some time now, this summer will be vital, we are in a much better position compared to the previous 7 summers under Moyes, he knows very well our weak areas (RB and RM + Striker) that's the only areas we need to strengthen, Coleman might be an answer to our RB problem, if Moyes thinks he is not good enough, than he should consider someone else (other than Hibbert and Neville), if Pineaar wants to go, he should sell him early in the summer and use the money to buy a replacement, he should not leave the situation hanged in the air till late August (like Lescott), basically, Moyes will have an easy summer compared to previous years where he had to deal with lot of positions, now it's down to 2-3 positions and maybe even less (if he thinks Coleman is the answer to the RB position and Saha + Yak are good enough for the whole next season) that leaves him with the RM and maybe a cover or 2 in the midfield.

I trust Moyes and i know he is very much looking forward for next season, all i want is our fans to realize that we have got a very good squad and manager and start pressuring them to deliver, blaming everything on the board and giving free get out of jail tickets to Moyes and the players will not help them.

This season was a failure, but we should learn our lessons (Lescott saga and the late transfers) and use this season's failure as advantage (lack of mid-week football compared to the other top 8 playing more games).

One last thing, and I will repeat myself, not qualifying for Europe is not the end of the world, in the football world, Everton is now regarded as an established Top 8 team, everybody (fans of the rest of the top 8) fear us and take us seriously. Players across Europe and the World see us as a Top team and missing out on Europe this season won't change that, we built a good reputation in the last 4-5 years and that won't be changed overnight.

Good post Jay. I have to agree. It's a mark of progress that people are surprised at the idea of not qualifying for Europe. I just hope we can keep the squad together and injury free (relatively). We then just need to sort this consistancy problem out. Easier said than done I know but that's what it all comes down to

I would like to have the button that is in facebook: "like". Very well written, and i totally agree with you Jay.

Great post and is spot on.

I guess it shows how high our expectations have come that we are disappointed to be drawing games (particularly away from home). Teams really do fear us now and see picking up points from us as very good results.

I'm excited for next year if we can keep the core of this squad together, and add to it a little.

I agree with you but we have to keep hold of stevie p

I take the point, but to be honest im more dissapointed that we had the oppurtunity and let it slip through our fingers on schoolboy erros. I understand injuries etc and am sympathetic but how many times this season have we been ahead and got pegged back due to bad bad errors.

were we watching the same game??? I though Colina cheated us????

Other than that....good piece and agree with pretty much everything you said.

nice one.

Great post, I mentioned in another topic how Everton are sleeping giants and if it wasn't for the mishaps with injuries at the start of the season then City and Spurs could be feeling threatened by you. I'd say you're roughly equal to Villa in terms of ability etc but I think Villa are happy with just a Europa league spot. I hope to see a good season next year for EFC.

I also agree with the poster.

Its why I responded to with this thread at some negative comments about Everton's situation
http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/27289-Everton-accounts-discussion-and-ownership

Frankly they were misinformed and seem to suggest that Everton are in a poor position????? We have to sell Rodwell for £15million. RUBBISH.

I'd argue that given the fact that unlike other clubs Everton haven't ballooned their wage:turnover or debt level then YES WE CAN do the above. We do not need to sell or cut costs (or at least for two seasons should we so choose).

We don't need savage cost cutting this summer (unlike Villa who's debt went up 20% and wage turnover up to 84% and expenditure ballooned by 50% with no net increase in revenue this season!!!!)

we - Everton - can sustain our playing squad if not add to it (in bits and pieces) because we didn't do this.

- Mucha
- J. Silva
- J. Beckford

No instability at Everton. Certainly not this summer.

Villa will have to sell players this summer. Just watch some clubs - the [Poor language removed] is going to hit the fan!

It'll be interesting to see how Beckford does in a Prem club. Lately for us he's been quiet and a lot of Leeds supporters have turned on him because of this, but when he has a winning mentality (which we saw more of in the FA Cup than the League this season) he's a truly great player.

I think that part of that is down to the defence and like all defences ours will improve after playing together more.

I like Jonny in the midfield but I have to say that when Fellaini is back I think he will own that defensive midfield role so i would like to see Jags and Jonny get some game time as a pairing at the back- that could be awesome!

We have plenty of options with afully fit squad next season.

Agree but there are several ifs and buts that could stop us challenging for 4th next year.
1. We need to keep all of our best players.
2. We need to stay largely injury free
3. We need a quality right midfielder, donovan or similar
4. We need other teams not to spend big in the summer.
5. We need a bit of luck

Mate , welcome back .

I would've quoted your post , but it's massive an' if everyone does , we'll be on age 12 , in post # 14 .

Anyway , I take your point , but today of all days , I would be wary of the whole , " Robbin' Peter to pay Paul " , [Poor language removed] .
This buy - to - sell , business .
If EVER there was a time to invest , not madly , but cute , in our first team squad . IT IS NOW .
Still , we know Kenwright's / 'Wrong's , limitations , but you would've thought some other investors , apart from us , would see that we are very , very close .
Villa last night was PROGRESS . We frightened them , and their degenerate following .
Anyway , boss post . Good to have you back , kid .

P.S. Was that Red / Green / Gold , " Lebanese " , Toffee ???

L.C.A.B. - Out .
